Assignment: Conquest and Colliding Empires 1. Some people would argue and claim that the Europeans’ treated the Indians they met, in the new lands being discovered, the same no matter what country these explorers were coming from. I do not believe that is the case. I believe that people coming for different reasons from their countries of origin on these expeditions shaped how they received the Indians and interpreted their way of life, their beliefs and motives. Columbus went out to discover the Indies in order to gain gold, spices and other goods for his country. He was not aware that the people and civilization that he encountered was not the destination he sought but rather was a new, undiscovered civilization of people.…show more content…
