Communication P1: There are many different types of communication like sign language, braille, body language, verbal speech and even facial expressions. Effective communication is a conversation in which the exact meaning of something is understood by the other person. An effective conversation can mean a conversation where something is achieved, or where two people both enjoy the conversation and learn something. Effective communication in the health and social care setting is very important because it allows the care worker to perform their role effectively. This allows them to work alongside their colleagues and lets them build good relationships with the service users even if they are from different backgrounds.
I reflected this back and explained to the speaker I felt they were perhaps anxious and agitated about the topic being discussed. The speaker was not aware that they were expressing any from of body language and agreed with the feelings suggested. This reflection then enabled us to carry on and explore these feelings further. “Stereotyping and prejudice are natural human behaviours” (COSCA HANDOUT). In order to protect the speaker and the counsellor throughout the helping process, ensuring justice, fairness and non-discriminatory practice to both parties, a code of ethical framework is followed.
This allowed Mrs. Sharp the opportunity to set the tone and feel more comfortable when telling her story. This also allowed me the time to assess and relate to the client. (Murphy & Dillon, 2011) Due to the stress that this person has been under, the best way to establish a working relationship with her is to allow her to say what she needs to say and watch for her reactions to her answers. If you allow the client to direct the way that the interview goes, she might be able to open up more and share her experiences on her own terms and that will lessen the stress she feels about what happened
I also enjoy helping others and giving advice, making people feel good about themselves and making sure they are heading in the right direction. My father works in the health care sector and he talks to me in a certain way sometimes where we can communicate on the same level like he would do with his service users at work. This made me think about how I would love to progress into a career in counselling. I am able to carry out independent research and write reports summarising my findings. I have learned to look at evidence carefully and analyse a range of data.
They must have the passion to help others to get back to their everyday lives or for some, help them learn to live with their illness. An aide might find residents with that illness very upset with their current situation. It is the aide’s job to comfort them in their time of need by sitting with them and letting them talk about their problems. Just sitting in the room quietly, consoling the patient and letting them know that the aide cares and that they are not alone is enough to make them feel loved. Additionally, being patient is the one trait a CENA must acquire or learn in order to succeed in this career.
Outcome 2 1- To establish the communication and laungage needs, wishes and preferences of an individual you can look in their care plan. It will show you if they have difficulty communicating and the best and effective ways to overcome these. You could also seek help from other staff members who have worked with the individual in the past as this could be very effective. Talking to the family members is also a good way to find out this information. 2 - There are factors to consider when promoting effective communication such as disabilities such as hearing loss, impaired vision, mobility problems or speech impairment.
In addition a good practical nurse should also be a good listener. A nurse should ensure that its patient is being heard and acknowledge. Also a nurse should acknowledge any improvement in its patient’s health. And reward the patient for any participation that he or she takes towards its health improvement. For example when a nurse sees that its patients exercise and watch his or her diet in order to lower its blood pressure or cholesterol the nurse should reward them by making a positive comment to them.
I believe that a person’s emotions can influence critical thinking because some people’s ethical lens is more heartfelt and can let them make decisions with their emotions instead of with their knowledge and brain. When I participated in the Career Building Activity for aptitude I learned that I am good at applying practical skills and solving practical problems. I am more suited for a job that involves practical problem solving and my biggest strength is following instructions followed by adhering to values and researching.
I think the humanistic-encouraging trait is important because like any other leader, people must trust you, set goals that are attainable, learn how to resolve issues in a constructive manner, and encourage your followers. I enjoy listening to people’s problems and helping them think positive and find the healthiest or best solution. I am normally the person my friends come to when they need to talk to someone. I believe as a manager a person must have a sense of how a person is and deal with each person individually if needed so each person as an understanding of what is the mission is. Controlling as a manager is something I believe I will have to work on.
D1: Evaluate interpersonal and written communications techniques Over the course of this unit I have had numerous times where verbal exchanges have happened and while this has happened I have kept calm, focused and been clear when speaking to show my confidence when presenting. First impressions are important because they have most impact on the rest of the verbal exchange so using eye contact and giving a smile during this would give a good impression as they can relax and see you as kind. When presenting if you paraphrase certain things, it can help people understand what is going whereas if you didn’t they would just be clueless about the rest of the presentation. Plus summarising the main points at the end can help people understand
