If society seems cracks in the system, or even a hint of bad organizational management, or bad police behavior in the criminal justice system; they will in turn began to question the value of that system (Robinson, 2009). Society looks at the justice system as a role model of how things should be, if they see issues of racism, sexism, or plain poor work ethics of officers; this in turn can cause bad rapport between the criminal justice system and the society they govern. In a changing society, there is little tolerance for officers or departments that chose to misuse the badge by hiding behind it to commit crimes. Society will see more value in the criminal justice system is if their officers are more caring in upholding the law without unnecessary out of line roughness. To build good rapport between society and the criminal justice system there must first be a strong structure within the system.
Giving her all the fact will allow Kathy Kudler to make a good decision about what steps KFF needs to make from top to bottom to allow the new software to be accepted throughout the organization. Conclusion KFF is going through an organizational change throughout the company. KFF has an organizational structure throughout the organization that will foster this change to be successful. The power flows from top to bottom with the CEO having Legitimate power at every level of the organization. Using different influence tactics to help push the initiative through the different level of the organization, the integration of the new software will be successful and the consultant process will be flawless because I have used the company’s power structure to leverage change at
Each employee should know and understand what is going on within the organization at all times. Organizational Communication is more effective than using other types of methods as it includes face-to-face, e-mails, faxed letters and telephone calls. Affected Areas of Change There are many areas within the company that would be affected by the change, and each department may be affected differently. Face-to-face communication provides each individual their spoken words, visual aids, voice, facial expressions, and body language that helps employees and customers
Criminology is a field of study that is evolving every day. Throughout the years there has been the study on what causes crime, how to prevent crime, and the treatment of the juvenile delinquency and adult crime. Advancement in technology is changing the future of policing. Everyday new programs are introduced, new computers are designed, new weapons are created, etc. The future directions of crime fighting needs to be mindful of the individual’s rights and it will take more expertise to pave the directions of future crime fighting.
The University of California guidelines were not up to date and there were many people affected by this situation of ethical boundaries that come with consequences. The Ethical Codes should have been re-evaluated and controlled for the sake of all nationalities. The University of California should recognize the internal controls of ethical codes and what this really means. Policies and procedures should be written out in detail and follow-ups should be done automatically. The lab researchers should be asked to sign non-disclosure forms upon their employment to protect them as well as the University.
It's not going to happen. But the Code is well known by all – from the chief on down. It allows some cops to operate unethically, even criminally, and it prevents good cops from stopping them.” (Quinn, 2005) Quinn claims that the code is the predominant motivator behind police behavior. Quinn also claims that there is a component of self-preservation in police using the code. It may allow them to forget some of the more horrific scenes they have experienced.
This will ensure that officers feel valued and will heighten their intrinsic motivation. An emphasis on achievement would be made stronger by appealing to the officers’ emotions. As Dan Heath discusses in the video “Want Your Organization to Change? Put Feelings First,”¹ people change as a result of feelings, not knowledge. Some ways to play to the feelings of officers could be explaining specific examples of a particular police officer making a difference in a particular community or sharing specific stories of city residents whose lives have been affected for the better by actions taken by the Department.
They must defend them to the best of their ability and look out for what is best for them… Prosecuting attorneys' clients are usually the people of a specific city or country. Prosecutors are ethically responsible to find justice in a more conventional sense, and therefore serve to protect their area of practice from dangerous criminals. Police Officer Accountability Accountability has become a big thing in today’s policing practices. An officer is accountable for the community, the department, and themselves (Peak, 2012). With accountability of every action they make as an officer puts more strain and concern on them as an officer and can interfere with the officer’s split- decision making process. The first question I need to respond to as part of this exercise is In a situation where an officer is forced to make a split second decision for example when in pursuit, what are the ramifications of that decision in relation to accountability that officer. In a situation as this the the accountability of the officer includes maintaining public safety, as well as the offenders, abide by the law in apprehending the offender that put everyone around in danger, that was left to you to uphold, and ensure the reasoning for the pursuit is identifiable to be held up in court.
This decrease in moral standard has made it difficult for people to adhere and demonstrate ethical behavior at all times. On the other hand we have Police Officers who occupy a position of trust. Officers make a solemn pledge as a commitment to conduct and demonstrate ethical behavior. But even with the Oath of Honor considered police conduct is sometimes questioned. The case study we are presented with is questioning the integrity of Officer Smith.
