Nowadays, it is a leading consumer goods company which offer five core businesses: Oral Care, Personal and Fabric Care, Household products and Pet Nutrition. It is well-known for brands such as Colgate toothpaste, Ajax cleanser or Sanex soap, among others. Furthermore, it sells its products in over 200 countries worldwide, with sales exceeding $15 billion. C-P was also recognized as its outstanding approach to manage international career development. It has always relied on expatriates and by 1993 it had 170 expatriates in top management positions all over the world, which required an essential factor: international experience. However, many skilled young managers were averse to international assignments because their wives had qualifications and could not be relocated abroad. As a consequence, C-P management starts to think about adapting their approach toward international career development through the International Assignment Policy and the Spouse Assistance Program, which are explained below.
