Melinda was an outcast. She started school with everyone hating her. Her old friends ignored her and even the kids she barely talked to in middle school; now talk about her behind her back. Her best friend Rachel tells her she hates her. She lost all her friends and has no one to talk to and share her feelings to, besides Heather.
Her best friend Rachel didn’t even sit with Melinda that day. Instead she laughed at her and told her “I hate you” (pg 5). Melinda found a new friend that just moved to town. Heather is completely different then she. Melinda does not even like her but it the only girl that doesn’t know about the party.
She is seen to have received a cold reception from both sues, and they do not want to communicate to her or be associated with her. She is suffering rejection and humiliation when they pack her items in one corner and invite their boyfriends in the room and apparently they start kissing. However, a rude character is seen when she does not introduce her mother when they arrived in the dormitory. Lisa feels unwanted and as an intruder in the room. The second case, which is titled the surprised roommates, is centered on two ladies called Sues Taylor and Sue Knowles.
Her parents never realized that after every meal Rachel would secretly go to the bathroom upstairs and throw up everything she had eaten. Her father would beat her up and treat her like trash and her mother would just stand there and not say a word because she was weak and always did as Rachel’s dad said. In her kindergarten class, Rachel treated all the other little girls with rudeness, anger, and jealousy towards anyone who was better than her. She often spent her days in the principal’s office because of her strong character and misbehaviors. Rachel grew up, went through her dating stage, and then finally met a wonderful man that she could not picture herself without; a caring, positive, supportive husband that goes by the name of Tim.
Connie’s Escape Connie is fifteen and is always worried about how her appearance looks. Her mother don't like the fact she spends more time looking her self herself in the mirror then being neat and responsible like June, her older sister. Connie seems to ignores her mother’s criticisms most of the time. In order to escape her reality she opens the screen door to get away for from her family and be in some kind of fantasy. I think there were other reasons also, but the story points to this one in many places.
Mean Girls is sending a message to say take responsibility for your before it gets worse. In Mean Girls Cady acts like an innocent bystander and doesn’t own up to anything she has done. When she keeps ditching her real friends Janice and Damian and then denies doing it. When Cady was at Regina’s house and writing stuff in the burn book and talking about people behind their backs and says “ I know it may seem like I’ve become a bitch, but that’s only because I was acting like a bitch” She was in denial of doing anything wrong and she was just acting. In the office after the ‘burn book’ was spread across the school Cady denied she had taken any part in it, But after all the denying and lying everyone saw her for the backstabber she is and Janice saw us way before everyone.
She also, obeyed her mother’s request, to bounce whenever she was bullied. To bounce means to ignore and pretend it wasn’t even there. Evyn kept to herself a lot. She never told or showed people how miserable she felt about moving. When Evyn first saw Eleni, with her red lipstick, black pants, and high heels, she thought Eleni looked nothing like a college professor and a mother.
However, the girl just ignored them. And one day, her parents were involved in a car accident, and they died. When the girl found out her parents died, she felt very regretful because since she was a little girl, she start ignoring her parents, just stayed at home, never communicate with her parents about what she is thinking and difficulties, and now, she is very regret about not spending time to communicate with her parents. So, don’t ever isolated yourself with the others, otherwise, you will feel regret
Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson has the potential to shape a reader, this is because it tells the story of a girl named Melinda who cant speak up about the horrible thing that happened to her. This lack of communication leads to a break down of her relationships and it is only because of the attention of a great teacher that she began to heal. Melinda is greatly affected by what happened that unforgettable night at the end of the summer before her freshman year. When enters the 9th grade she has no one to talk to because all of her old friends now hate her. At this point people already start to bad for Melinda.
It starts off with a little girl named Isis. She’s sitting on a fence when her grandmother tells her to get down, and she doesn’t seem to be very pleased with Isis. Throughout the story she seems to be a troublemaker. She doesn’t listen to her grandmother and does whatever she pleases. Her first act of troublemaking was when she shaved her grandmother’s facial hair.
