Essay 1: Rough Draft Due: 2/6/2014 Second Draft: 2/13/2014 Final Draft: 2/25/2014 Formulate an essay that responds to Cicero's ideas of justice and incorporates your own ideas about justice. In paragraph 15, Philus says that "weakness, not nature or good intention, is the mother of justice." Do you agree? Does our desire for justice arise from a sense of our own weakness? What differences may exist between the strong and the weak in terms of their attitude toward justice? Who needs justice more? Think about a context that would be an appropriate one to explore the above questions. Your rough draft should be at least 2-3 pages typed (the final draft will be 3-4 pages). You probably will not answer all these questions, and the paper should not be a string of answers. You will formulate a thesis that responds to one or two or even several of these questions. Your thesis will need to be an argument that can stand alone. " Weakness is the mother of justice " , I actually didn't think about this , till I read it here and I think I agree with it . And I might be one of those weak people , who don't have the power to act unjust to others , I don't have the power to change anything around me , I can change myself but not the others . Cicero mentioned a good illustration in his argument , where there is two men , one of them is the powerful and not just and the other one is the good honest man , and the people believe that the good man is the powerful one although he is not just or honest like the other man . At the end , who I am going to choose ? I will choose the powerful man of course , because he has all the power , all the praise and all the wealth ,
