In earlier generations, Asian immigrants felt that they were second-class citizens with lower incomes and lower job prestige, compared with white people. After studying relative success of white people, Asian Americans were aware that their humble educational backgrounds caused their low social status. Therefore, for preventing the next generation from repeating the same fate, Asian American parents already start addressing to their children about the idea that "school success is gaining entrance into the best colleges" when their children are still little (Tureba 134). Besides continually asking their children what they plan to do in the future, Asian American parents also "force" their children to choose fields in which they think their children will most likely find success. For instance, Most Asian Americans consider computer science an important field because it "lends itself to other fields well known to them such as programming and electrical engineering.
This is due to parents that can easily afford to spend thousands of dollars out of pocket for a four year degree. In the lower income areas, these graduates do not have the funds or opportunities of their counterparts. Their parents may not have attended college; therefore the students may have never been taught the importance of a higher education to better themselves in life. The military is a more viable option for them. They will have the opportunity to have their education paid for, understand the importance of education, and possibly learn a valuable skill while being able to serve their country.
In the film Waiting for Superman, the filmmakers investigate schools where there are low expectations of student achievement. Some of the social factors seen in the film that contribute to non-functioning educational environments are Income, school location, neighborhood.. It seems that families in poverty or with low incomes are not interested in learning. They feel like they have been hit with the short end of the stick. The schools are generally over crowded with few good teachers.
Funding from local tax revenues and community resources to generate additional income from poor families is smaller than that of affluent neighborhoods. Second, parental participation is lower due time constraints and lack of information which is often interpreted as disinterest. Third, parents often feel powerless to create change which often influenced by the fourth factor, lack of “individual and collective efficacy” (p. 85). Educational success is further impacted by student arriving with additional needs. Unlike their affluent counterparts, students with in the Oakland system arrived to school with unprepared: academically, often lacked dental and health insurance, came to school hungry, moved frequently or were affected by domestic violence.
Being raised in a low income area surrounded by people living the same lifestyle as you as if struggling is the norm of society. Children learn from early in their adolescent years adapt to their environment if they see their parents living in the projects in most cases they won’t have any means to get out of the projects. Children are affected mainly because of what they see not all but quite a few children are comfortable living the same way they grew up . No matter the situation the child comes from it will never determine their fate.
America has one of the highest hours in a working week and lowest vacation time out of all of the developed countries today. It has become more fast-paced and frugal then it ever has been. As a result of this children are learning less and less from their parents and more from social media and technology. Since parents are less active in teaching their children, schools are being asked more and more to take their place. Teaching civics, civic responsibility and ethics in schools would target the highest percentage of children.
Since majority of Chinese parents set such high standards for their children’s social life, academics, and extracurricular activities, it makes them better parents than most Western parents. In most cases, strict parenting involves parents having the responsibility to impose rules and guidelines for their children’s social life. If not, most parents feel that their children will take advantage of their free time, and utilize it in an unnecessary manner. For example, “It drew from studies which had shown that girls whose parents were 'mediocre' were more likely to experience 'significantly more internalizing problems such as low self-esteem or the use of illicit drugs'.” (Clark, 2009). Clearly, this shows that studies prove that due to ‘mediocre’ parents having less involvement in their children’s social life, will lead their children to making immature decisions that they may regret.

Whites and Asian American parents are extremely different when comparing mechanisms of internalization of educational values in academic and education. Researches and studies have been shown that Asian Americans are known to be more engaged in studding work like activities, and activities importance competence in these situations for education and high expectations for achievements then white Americans. To this day forward Asian American shave been known to have a higher pay rate price than whites for achieving a given level of education, not to mention the time spent on weekends. The working classes of Asian Americans seem to be much higher and are known to be a lot better than the white American community (Gakvin
Chinese university vs American university The United States has about 4,140 universities, many of which are the world's best universities (National Center for Education Statistics). China has about 2,236 universities; only a few universities rank among the world's famous schools (Wikipedia). Many people would like to study in the United States or send their children to study in the United States because the education conditions are better than those in China and the model of education is very different (Chow). Nowadays, no country in the world has a perfect education system, because every country has many unique features; in some countries the perfect system might not be suitable for other countries. Each system should learn from each other's advantages and disadvantages, to find the most suitable for their education system.
Education: The process in which an individual gains pointless knowledge for the opportunity to get wealthy. America's education system is awful at properly educating their students. The type of education that is taught in high school is only to prepare you for what you're actually going to learn in college. A lot of the courses being offered at high schools are impractical in our daily lives, such as trigonometry, Hawaiian history and British literature. These courses are useless unless you're going to major in one of those subjects, but most of us aren't.
