Childhood Obesity Brian Kyle ENG 122: English Composition 2 February 22, 2011 Professor Stacey Rose Childhood Obesity The occurrence of childhood obesity has risen significantly in recent years and has become a very delicate issue for many individuals. There are several contributing factors involved with obesity in children and many components that may influence its development and onset. Many are also unsure of how to change when the problem already exists. The strongest component of change is commitment; the individual must possess a strong desire to change what they cannot live with anymore (Zeratsky, 2011). Fortunately, as millions have discovered, it is never too late to change lifestyle habits and set out on a path to personal growth. In addition to commitments, change also requires individuals to be informed and educate themselves on everything that surrounds the issue of obesity, including why it has occurred, the emotional components that underlie its development, healthy and unhealthy meal choices, and exercise regiments (CDC, 2011). For example, rather than consuming unhealthy fast food in front of the television, individuals should perhaps sit down at the dinner table and eat as a family and teach their children that it is important to eat plenty of vegetables, fruits, and drink plenty of water to live a healthy lifestyle (CDC,…show more content…

Obesity does not happen overnight; it is the result of a chain of bad habits, poor nutrition, and lack of exercise (Zeratsky, 2011).
