Chevy You might think I’m referring to a car or a truck, but Chevy is a dog. He is a big part of my life; I didn’t get him when he was puppy. I didn’t even name him; I obtained him at the age of 4 in 2006. His original name was Pee Wee, and the people I got him from didn’t like Pee Wee so they changed it to Chevy. He is a Belgian Malinois, which is a type of shepherd. This breed is typically used in law enforcement and the Military. Chevy is not an aggressive dog but a very gentle dog. The first time I met Chevy he was excited jumping up and down tail wagging, and a big smile. I had another dog years ago but we had to get rid of him. He was a big dog too, and I like big dogs. Many have a high prey drive and may be excessively playful, especially as puppies. Chevy can be destructive, and any dog can when they’re puppies! Chevy needs stimulation. I can buy him a tennis ball and twenty minutes later he will have destroyed it. He knows not to damage any furniture or personal items, but he can’t seem to stay away from the trash. I think Chevy’s main down fall aside from getting into the trash every now and then, is his shedding. He usually only sheds twice a year, summer and winter, and the term is called blowing his coat, which is when large amounts of hair fall out at once. But in Chevy’s case he loses his hair when there’s a storm or fireworks, or any time he tends to get anxious. He leaves clumps of hair all over the…show more content…
At night he likes to lie on the landing so he can see the whole house and keep an eye on his herd. People say a dog is man’s best friend and I believe this to be a true statement. Chevy’s love is unconditional. I enjoy going to the dog park with him, and watching him interact with other dogs. In July of 2010 I became homeless so Chevy and I lived out of my car. During the day we’d go to parks and walk trails, our favorite was walking downtown St. Paul along the river. At night we’d share dinner; his favorite was when he got my crust from Little Ceasar’s.
