Starting positions are very limited, so that is why the African Americans and whites fight over them. To make an African American player look bad, the white football players wouldn’t block for the African American during practice. The white people just wanted to make the African Americans look bad. All the white football players cared about was to make sure that all the starting positions were filled with their own race. It caused many conflicts between the players, not only during practice but during games.
Their ideas often differed from other black leaders. DuBois’s affiliation with the NAACP attempted to solve the problem through integration. Garvey’s UNIA centered around the idea of blacks helping blacks, attempting to relieve blacks of any dependence on whites. Both men had a lasting impact on generations to come. The beliefs of W.E.B.
Booker T. Washington and W.E.B. Du Bois were two of the strongest leaders of the black community and had very different strategies of dealing with the problems blacks faced during this time period. Booker T. Washington’s strategy for dealing with discrimination was one of self help and education. He believed that the best way of equality is earning it. If they started to rebel against the discrimination, it would only make the whites more determined to keep them oppressed.
This helped him gather many more ideas on the inequalities that blacks had to face because of whites. His brother Muhammad wrote to him, “The black prisoner symbolized white society’s crime of keeping black men oppressed and deprived and ignorant, and unable to get decent jobs, turning them into criminals” (Haley, 195). Which illustrates Malcolm X’s life perfectly, because he used to strive and care about school, but once he found out the true meaning of being black in American it twisted his character. Not being able to look forward to having a good job meant you could probably make more money on the streets hustling. With no ability to advance in society, he wondered if settling for a job like a janitor is really worth it.
Discrimination in Football There is a clear discrimination against African American head coaches in Division 1a NCAA Football. The fact of the matter is most college administrators and alumni fear a black man in a position of authority. Why is this starting to become a trend? Anyone desiring to become a head football coach on the NCAA Football level had a lesser chance statistically than those seeking to become head coach in the NFL, NCAA basketball or even a general in the U.S. Army. There are numerous components that coaches must have in order to become a head coach in Division 1a NCAA Football. To be blunt, the color of one’s skin is the biggest factor.
He didn`t use violence as a major tool for his movement, but he allowed to use violence. Which means black people use any necessary means of self defense Plus, All his intensive words were for the black people rights and freedom. Such as his speech Ballot or the Bullet shows his eagerness to gain political rights. Majority of black people say who were tired of waiting for freedom, justice, equality and respect say he clearly articulated their opinion and alarmed the world. Some people say Martin Luther King also proposed black people rights as well but his major achievement of black people was enlarging black people`s governmental and political participation scale.
Remember the Titans is a movie that follows the story of the forced integration of Virginia’s T.C. Williams High School and the leadership dynamics that took place. The integration causes a racial crisis in the community when the iconic football team’s beloved white coach, Coach Yoast is demoted to Defensive Coach while African American Coach Boone is hired into the Head Coach role. Racism within the community makes it difficult for either coach to succeed without taking the significant risks of a strong leader during this controversial time. The two coaches have very different leadership styles and different opinions regarding the forced integration.
Along with the laws comes outrage from the white families of Alexandria; especially after the implementation of a law that combined the white school and the black school into one. There is a coaching change on the football team that comes along with the school change; a new African American coach, Coach Boones, is given the head coach job at the new school instead of the Hall of Fame coach, Coach Yoast, that is currently there. There is much indignation about this seemingly unfair change that takes
These people felt that if they tried to rock the boat and fight for equality the rights they have already acquired will be stripped away. In Melba Patillo Beals autobiography Warriors Don’t Cry the anger against her integration of Central High School was evident in the African-American community around her. Melba and the other 8 students integrating Central High School not only endured the constant bullying by their tormentors inside the school they had to endure the loneliness of being abandoned by their community and all their friends because the community was afraid of the repercussions they would endure because of their involvement with the
Muhammad Ali was drafted to the war, and he made the decision not to participate because of his beliefs. Jackie Robinson helped to establish the Freedom National Bank, which is an African American owned financial institution. These athletes and many more have seized opportunities outside the sporting arena in hopes to advance the African American community. Today sports such as football, basketball, and track and fields are dominated by African Americans. This makes me question why are African Americans so prominent and dominant in these sports?
