In winter, the joys of snow sports: skiing, snow-surfing, telemark, free-style... but also outings on snowshoes or dog-sledding excursions Certain precautions should be taken when gaining altitude with young children. 
It is not advisable to take children under 3 years of age to above 2000 metres altitude. 
Between 3 and 12 years of age, avoid long, sustained physical effort at over 2500 metres.
From 12 to 18 years of age physical effort above 4000 metres is not advisable. Impacts of tourism: Benefits: • Econtomic- employment in hotels etc. • Guides and instructors • Construction and maintenance industry • Income supports local services • Social – locals benefit from improved services and transport • Well lit streets, safe pavements • Environmental – Chamonix is maintained as an attractive town • Clean Problems: • Traditional way of life is under pressure • Decline in farming • Social make up of area is changing • Many seasonal workers • Alpine forests cleared to make way for ski runs and chair lifts • Alpine habitats lost • Noise congestion • Access to Chaminix via motorways is good but the streets In the town are narrow • Eroded mountain footpaths • Shops, cafes etc are tourist centred and expensive • Houses are expensive • Many second homes
