If Holden were to avoid this type of situation many of his problems wouldn’t exist. For example, in the middle of the novel Holden decides to go to Ernie’s, a nightclub he used to visit with his brother. However, despite Holden’s decision to go to the club, he still goes on to say the following: “[Ernie is] a terrific snob and he won’t hardly even talk
We see that Yunior didn’t work for his things, he would just steal them, and when he would buy things the money used was made selling drugs. He was living a dangerous style of life. He tells of the time that him and Beto were caught for stealing. He then tells us that he spends his nights drinking with his friends, at a bar with other washouts. He tells us that he drinks too much, and when the bar starts to get rough he heads home.
So that was out.” (Pg.59) He avoided all contact with his parents. Holden becomes so lonely that he tries to interact with anyone within his reach. He even asks a cab driver if he would “care to stop on the way” and join him for a cocktail (pg.60) Holden has alienated himself for such a prolonged amount of time that it has driven him into somewhat of a state of depersonalization. Instead of getting the support from the people close to him, he uses strangers to socialize with because he thinks they wont judge him as they are unknowing of his troubles. Holden has tried setting up rules for himself like “Last year I made a rule that I was going to quit horsing around with girls… I broke it though, the same week I made it” (pg.63) Holden cant maintain even his own made up rules.

Falling into Adulthood In the novel The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger, Holden Caulfield, a 16 year old boy, struggles to mature and conform to the expectations of society as he enters adulthood while he tries to cope with the death of his little brother, Allie. Holden doesn’t like what he sees as he starts to meet new people and venture into the world. His travels in New York City cause him to lose his childhood innocence from encounters with people who are phonies that only care about money and sex. These losses of innocence are shown by a recurring motif in the story, falling.
Plot summary Emily had cheated on his husband with David Lindhagen (Kevin Bacon) who was working together with his husband. The many visits to bars and loud talks about his divorce are what Jacob meets his friend to be Steve Carell. By then Jacob was a humanizer who always made away with different kinds of women to his house. One lady by the name Hannah (Emma Stone) had refused to go with him. Later Cal’s wardrobe is changed by Jacob and he is taught all the tricks of seducing women.
Ardis, a friend of Irene and Deems’ had met Brennan for the first time at the dinner party. He was a drunk, arrogant poet who tried coming on to her. After that night Ardis asked about Brennan’s work at a local bookstore, finding out that he took all of his work out of the shops because he didn’t want unworthy people to read it. On her way home she passed his house and came across his dog who followed her home. After bringing him back to Brennan’s house she could see that he wanted to go inside, so for some odd reason she decided to go inside.
He even gets drunk, and walks around in the park alone without mentioning it. This is a significant difference from his first hours in NYC, when if he was away from people for even a second he would have had his favorite red hunting hat on his head. The hat means very little throughout his visit to Phoebe, until he gives it to her. This shatters the trends. It’s a symbol for his individuality again.
No one really cared about him, so he built up walls with drinking and now Katniss and Peeta break them down and help him. On the train ride over to the capitol he is drunk when he should be giving advice to his tributes on how to stay alive in the games. Once he realizes they had a fighting chance this year and were not automatically written off as usual, he managed to focus on helping them instead of drinking. This helps Haymitch by giving him something to focus on as well as focusing on people who care for him. In the film The Hunger Games: Catching Fire his drinking is not as prevalent because he now has Katniss and Peeta who care enough about him to try and help him stay sober.
My friend was arrested and left with some marks. Another incident, I remember back in August 2007 it was one night we were all at the carnival and a big fight broke out. Again everyone scattered everywhere. This time it was one of my best friends, she was trying to gather everyone so we can leave the carnival but two of us were missing. We all split up, me and her stayed around each other and the officers came telling us to leave we told him “Officer were just looking for our friend so we can leave” but he was not hearing us, he just kept yelling and yelling.
