Motivation is what leads us to be passionate in the things we do. Most individuals that want to make a change and be motivated join an organization that will be able to motivate them in order to fulfill their drive. However, when the motivation and morale have taken its toll, it causes issues within the organization that must be addressed. The case study of Captain Edith Strong has come across issues with her patrol officers who are dissatisfied with their job duties. The volume of call that the police officers have to responds are overwhelming. Causing officer responds to take longer, which has increased the citizens’ complaints. It has also led officers to file more often disability claims and a higher employee turnover. Furthermore, we will go over what actions Captain Strong should take; motivational strategies that I would recommend, if E.R.G. theory be applicable in this situation, and finally job enlargement or job enrichment be appropriate in this case (More, Vito, & Walsh, 2012 , Chapter 6, Motivation). What philosophical approach do you believe Captain Strong should take in carrying out this project? The issues that Captain Strong is facing involves her patrol officer. Patrol officers view their job as unsatisfying which are followed by other issues. Captain Strong has to figure out how can she motivate and bring up the morals of her patrol officers. More, Vito, and Walsh (2012), “Officers in the specialized assignment have higher morale and seem well satisfied with their assignments.” (Chapter 6, Motivation). Captain Strong can look at the specialized officers and see what makes them have a high motivation and morals in order to apply it to the patrol officers.
