‘Thank You M’ am’ and ‘From I Know a Caged Bird Sings How can two people be really different, but have so many similarities? I am comparing and contrasting Roger and Marguerite from two different stories and genres. Roger thinks he is street smart, while Marguerite is depressed and withdrawn. Although, Roger and Marguerite come from different lifestyles, they still have many similarities. Roger is a theft, mistrusted, and wants to escape his problems. Marguerite is depressed, observant, and intolerant! They both now look up to the older woman as role models, and are taught a life lesson. Roger is known as a theft. When she was about ten years old, she returned to Stamps from St. Louis. She had become depressed and withdrawn. Marguerite sopped around for almost an entire year. Maya wasn’t as curious as she used to be. When she met Mrs. Flowers, she noticed all the major and minor details about her. Mrs. Flowers invited her for tea cookies to talk to her about her situation, she said “You must always be intolerant or ignorance but understanding of illiteracy.” That quote means that she should be grateful and understand other people’s opinions. Next, they have a lot of differences, and only a few similarities. They both have look up to older women as role models. Roger now looks up to Mrs. Jones. Marguerite looks up to Mrs. Flowers. Roger looks up to her for teaching him to care about other people. Marguerite thanks Mrs. Flowers because she taught her that speaking is more convincing than written words. Those are the similarities between Roger and Marguerite. Finally, Roger and Marguerite come from different lifestyles, they still have many similarities. Roger learned that he should care about other people than himself. Marguerite now knows that speaking is convincing rather than written words. They both have been taught life lessons that they could use later on. Every story has a lesson, and those are the differences and similarities from ‘Thank You M’am’ and ‘ From I Know a Caged Bird Sings’
