You should include: • how to respond to enquiries from parents • how to maintain confidentiality • ways to greet and welcome parents Assignment criteria P8.1 Explain how to respond to enquiries from parents P8.2 Explain ways to maintain confidentiality P8.3 Include suitable ways to greet and welcome parents P8.1 Explain how to respond to enquiries from parents It is important for practitioners to respond correctly to parents, this is because to meet the individual needs of the child parents and practitioners involvement in the child’s development is paramount. One enquiry a parent may have about their child is an illness which requires medical attention. Responding to this enquiry will be the welfare requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage by promoting the health and hygiene of all children. In my setting it is not in their policy to care for sick children and they advise parents to keep their child at home for 48 hours from the last time they were sick, however they will care for a child who is recovering from an illness. For example a child was absent due to a chest infection, the child is ok to come to nursery however medicine must be issued to the child at specific times. Therefore it is important for all team members to follow the correct procedures to give out medicine. To give medicine to children parental responsibility must be obtained for the administration of medicine. Also the parent must sign a consent form which is stated in appendix 1. To give the child medicine I had to sign the medicine book, I had to record all the information stated in appendix 1. Throughout this situation I showed good communication skills because I communicated with the parents about their Page 1
