Introduction Buddhism is the biggest religion in Vietnam, which spread largely through all over the country and has a significant influence on Vietnamese daily life. Almost people including Buddhist or non-Buddhist are affected strongly by the doctrine of Buddhism. It is also the reason why many people these days go to the pagoda to show their belief, respect and to invoke the Buddha. It can be said that going to the pagoda becomes one of our nation’s traditionally cultural values, which needs preserving and promoting for others next generations. However, it should be strictly criticized about some practices which have negative effects on this national tradition. Thus, this essay is written to figure out these problems and suggests some possible solutions at the end. To my personal point of view, there are three main problems including the improper behavior of people when going to the pagoda, what people wish and invoke for, and the practice of wastefully burning votive offerings and papers. I. Discussion The first thing that I want to mention is about the improper way people behave and the attitude they have when going to the pagoda. Pagoda is the solemn place where the Buddha is worshiped. People go there with the hope to not only have peace in mind but also release all the troubles and worries from their daily life. Recently, the number of teenagers going to the pagoda has gradually increased, which brings the hope that religion as a spiritual life is more and more being concerned by the youth. However, ridiculously, going to the pagoda is becoming a fashionable trend as one of the ways young people use to make themselves different from the others. Moreover, they even do not care about how to dress suitably and therefore receive a lot of criticism from others.
