Minnie's husband has been murdered, he was found strangled with a rope around his neck. The first three characters who enter the room are the three men involved in the investigation of the murder at hand. The purpose of their visit is to find evidence of motivation of murder, the women, however, are concerned with the appearance of the house, especially the kitchen. The men presume the women to be harmless for a couple of reasons one being. The women are left in the kitchen where, according to the Sheriff, there are “nothing but kitchen things”(Glaspell 1070).
Feeling neglect and betrayal from god, Silas becomes lonely internally and also becomes depressed. Silas tries to fight against William, but he gives up and allows the authorities to take advantage of him. Silas’s best friend, William Dane, Whom Silas trusted more than anybody else, frames Silas into committing a crime. Authorities charge Silas for a murder using a specific knife. The authorities find the knife in a drawer in Silas’s house.
The Shawshank Redemption opens with Andy Dufresne being interrogated and sentenced for the murder of his wife and her lover. During the interrogation Mr. Dufresne flashes back to the night of the alleged murders. The flashbacks show Mr. Dufresne reaching into his glove compartment and pulling out a gun and bullets while sitting outside of his wife’s lover’s home. The interrogating attorney accuses Mr. Dufresne of shooting his wife and her lover, but the flash backs do not show him using his gun. During the interrogation Mr. Dufresne states that on his way home to ‘sleep it off’, he threw his gun into the Royal River; the attorney states that after searching the river for three days the gun was never recovered.
He was then arrested, and released on the condition, that he does not continue his investigation of the crime. Christopher ignores the caution and continues his search for the murderer. After questioning a few of the neighbors he discovers that his father and Mrs. Shears were having an affair. Meanwhile, the young man is preparing for an A-level Math Test, which upon receiving an A will make him eligible to attend university. He also is still continuing to write this book, a dairy of his documentations exploring the murder of Mrs. Shears’ dog.
The reader is shocked by the very first scene of the novel in which Bigger has to kill a rat in his family’s one bedroom apartment. That rat, unknown at the time, would come to symbolize bigger and his life in white America. Jan Erlone was the young, charismatic boyfriend of Mary Dalton. Jan was a member of the Communist party, and was very hopeful in the ideals the party stood for. Jan was naïve; he did not have a grasp on the African American culture of the time, nor the actual social disparity between the two races.
“The Trifles” written by Susan Glaspell in 1916, takes place in an abandoned farmhouse owned by John Wright. The First scene is in a “gloomy” messy kitchen where the first characters, County attorney, and the sheriff arrive with the witnesses the neighbors, Mrs. Peters, Mr. and Mrs. Hale and Hale. The sheriff is doing an investigation of John Wright’s murder and Hale recounts how he discovered Mrs. Wright acting bizarrely, as she told him how her husband died. The County attorney and the sheriff found it weird how Mr. Wright was straggled by a rope when there’s a gun in the house. The two complain of how the women are worrying about the trifles instead of the murder.
Jarvis was in the middle of writing a book called “The Truth about Native Crime” when he heard someone in the house, “Mr. Jarvis heard the disturbance and came down to investigate. He was shot dead at short range in the passageway leading from the stairs into the kitchen” (Paton, pg. 104). Later after the murder, “Three native youths were seen lounging in Plantation Road” (Paton, pg.
Mr. Wolf’s neighbor is Lucy Lane, who has recently divorced from James Lane, and got a restraining order on him that day because of previous emotional and physical abuse and threats to her and Rodney Hill, whom she has been dating for several months. Rodney Hill was found dead on Ms. Lane’s deck, and she found dead in her driveway; both victims received multiple stab wounds to their midsections. James Lane denied that he murdered Lucy Lane and Rodney Hill, but upon a warranted search of his home, police found blood stained clothes in his basement as well as a six inch lock blade knife in his dresser drawer. The blood on the clothing and knife matched the
Nick states, “Some justice is better than no justice at all.” Clyde seeks justice for his family, but when none is found he takes it upon himself to teach a lesson to the broken legal system he feels has betrayed him. Lack of accountability for one’s actions is prevalent right from the opening of the film. It takes place in an ominous dark room surrounded by what appears to be legal books. The dark lighting emphasizes the isolation and helplessness Clyde is experiencing. Nick and Clyde are sitting at a table and Nick is explaining to Clyde that due to circumstances, the most the killer will get is five years.
He started to perform badly at school and so, he decides to follow his sister’s steps and leave the house. However, he has nowhere to go, so he’s forced, suffering, onto the streets. With a sleeping bag, and £150 of savings of saving, he decides to travel to London. After his arrival to London, hoping for a fresh start, finding an apartment and a job were Link’s priorities. He finds an apartment advertisement with a negotiable rent, but after being bullied he is forced to take the apartment for a high price for 2 weeks leaving him with only 2/3 of his money.
