The Boston Tea Party (DEC. 16th, 1773) in which 342 chests of tea (valued at 18,000 pounds) belonging to the British East India Company was thrown from three ships (Dartmouth, Eleanor and Beaver) into the Boston Harbour by patriots dressed as Indians was described by many historians as one of the main developments which sparked the revolution in America. This eventuated because about 8,000 colonists led by Samuel Adams demanded at a town meeting that the ships be ordered back to England but the Governor refused, this was one of the major turning points in the Boston Tea Party. Shortly after the dumping of tea the port was closed as nobody wanted to pay for the destroyed chests of tea. The revolution in America was a drastic turning point as it was an entirely new form of government and not being controlled by another group of people which did not even live within the same continent. The Tea Party helped to develop the American people, which made them to be able to come together against the British which were taking advantage of them. If they did not do anything about it the British would surely not stop with adding other Acts which would also cripple the Boston Economy. Directly after the colonials in Boston dumped the three ships of tea; this tea was much cheaper than smuggled tea as there were government expenses and this made the tea cheaper. Samuel Adams quickly tried to convince everyone within the Boston vicinity that it was not the work of mindless thugs but a legitimate protest against the British government which did not have complete control over them and were in danger of losing the little amount of control which they did have and plus the financial problems which the British East India Company were facing at this period of time.
