A good way to teach this to a child who is having problems with synthetic patterns, is to give them books, like Cat in the Hat by Dr. Seuss. Orally repeating words that sound alike and practicing writing them as we say them. As we do this the child will be able to say that –at makes this sound in a words, which will help them learn new and bigger words. Also a good way to use this type of instruction is to use actual objects and have the child sort them by the way they sound, then writing those words, and then making sentences out of them. Alternative #2: Spelling Based Instruction, on pages 234 and 235, is an approach that focuses on each child individual level of knowledge.
Describe and explain how the society of “The Book Thief” impacted on Liesel. “The Book Thief,” an amazing and descriptive novel written by Marcus Zusak, gives a particularly good insight into the poor and vulnerable Germans of the Nazi German era. Liesel had the extreme hardship of witnessing the world of Nazi Germany turn to chaos, with almost everyone who she loved dying or suffering as a result. Liesel was affected immensely by the society, both physically and mentally, and her opinions were changed throughout the book. From the beginning to the end of the book Liesel has had to face many challenges, resulting only in herself being a good person and showing the good side of Germany.
Phonics and phonemic awareness are critical elements in developing good readers. Once students understand how sounds work together to make spoken words, it is then they can comprehend and relate the sounds to the letters in written words. Like phonemic awareness phonics provides the necessary groundwork for other reading skills and achievements. There are many activities that can be incorporated into phonics program to develop skills to become good readers. Letter sound association helps students to identify letter sound by using sound card.
When one learns new things in life, one will be successful. Whether somebody is a musician, architect, mathematician, teacher, or doctor everyone uses reading as a form of communication and documentation. Reading is everywhere from street signs, to billboards, picture books, magazines, internet sites, and even instruction labels. We can only be successful from reading by learning and studying and expanding our brain to remember more books and key points for tests and everyday life. For example, in the essay “Reading Ourselves and the World Around Us” Alberto Manguel says, “I had seen, over and over again, the letters that I knew were the names of the pictures under which they sat”(5).
The stabbing of Bob was an important event in the novel that took a toll on the character’s lives, although there were many important events in the story, Johnny killing Bob was one of the most important. This event led to multiple deaths and sad hearts. Mainly, the Socials and the Greasers usually fight amongst themselves. When the drunk Socs. tried to drown Ponyboy,
In Year of Wonders Anna Frith is presented as “too good to be true”, she may be seen as a courageous and honorable character, but Anna, like everyone, has her flaws and is thus a believable and realistic character. Anna fears risks of situations, experiences jealousy and desire, turns to the wrong solution for her grief, and questions her faith throughout the novel. Anna acts bravely and risks her life in unfamiliar situations though she still fears the risks. This is demonstrated when Anna helps birth Mary Daniel’s baby as the Gowdies are gone and Randall Daniel had no one to turn to so he went to Mrs. Mompellion. Mrs Mompellion had never conceived a child herself so it was up to Anna as she had the most experience out of the two.
Markus Zusak’s novel The Book Thief portrays how change can allow an individual to become more wise and independent. At the very beginning of the novel, Liesel was depicted as a young, naive nine year old girl. The novel is narrated through death’s perspective as he would occasionally describe his emotions through the use of strong colours, for instance “First up is something white, of the blinding kind.”
Thus it is shown that guilt can cause one to lose there inner conscience. Guilt in this play led Macbeth to live a life full of sorrow and regrets. Personal Response: I was interested in the event of the shooting because it made me think about what was going through Peter’s head while he was shooting. This was the main event in the book and I found it shocking and frightening. The way it was described made me visualise it all happening. Although I did not like the event that was happening I found it very interesting to read about, I liked that the event was told several times by several different characters point of views. A quote that I found shocking and frightening was when Patrick was running through the school and he writes “....a fine grey dust coated the broken bodies that lay twisted on the floor..... He’d see sprays of blood, and students crumbled on the ground” I found this quote quite disturbing.
However, Bechdel's clean, distinctive illustration style with its wry observations and amusing details is fun to read and examine, and drew this reader into her story quickly. Indeed, it's regrettable that this review can only include quotations and not excerpts of Bechdel's drawings. Several delightful and revealing images are included, such as her grandmother chasing a "piss-ant," her early identification with Wednesday Addams, the summer of the locusts, her teenaged diary entries, and several aspects of her own adolescent self-discoveries. One cannot help but identify with Bechdel. However, despite the pain and struggle Bechdel has had facing her father's life and death, the book is neither morose nor depressing.
