Developing a Counseling Plan Kim Rosencrans Walden University Developing a Counseling Plan A client will seek counselling services to facilitate a change in his or her lives. Change is not a simple process; the courage to walk into an office of a therapist is not easily achieved. The outcome of the therapy process for the client should be positive in nature. The client should have the ability to let go of abusive relationship patterns, self-sabotaging behaviors and a conscious mode of functioning, which can lead to happiness and wellness, and a safety plan is necessary. Riggan Thomason is an actor whose fame has dwindled recently due his rejection to continue with his more famous leading role, Birdman (Birdman, 2014). However, Mr. Thomason has begun to believe that he is actually the character he portrayed for many years on the screen (Birdman, 2014). Mr. Thomson’s personality is often self-absorbed, insecure and cantankerous. Case Study Mr. Thomson is a middle aged Caucasian male, (Birdman, 2014) who states he is struggling with several different issues in his professional and personal life. He complains of hearing voices, from past superhero character in film, having trouble sleeping, substance use, anxiety and intimate relationships (Birdman, 2014). He states that he has few friends and often will argue with the few he has. Mr. Thomson complains of the need he has for perfection and can be harsh on others when he believes such has not been achieved (Birdman, 2014). Background and Current Situation Mr. Thomson states that he studied theater throughout his college career of which he received bachelors in theater arts. Mr. Thomson is currently divorced and has a daughter that is in her twenties (Birdman, 2014). He states that both of the relationships are strained due to allegations of abuse by his ex-wife and his daughter’s substance
