Outline and evaluate one or more biological rhythms (24 marks) There are three main biological rhythms in psychology, Circadian, Infradian and Ultradian. Circadian Rhythms last 24 hours, ultradian rhythms last less than 24 hours and infradian rhythms last longer than a day but less than a year. Ultradian rhythms are bodily rhythms that last for less than 24 hours, such as the feeding patterns of many animals, and the stages of sleep which last 90 minutes in total. For example, there are 5 stages of sleep. In stage 1, the heart beat slows down, muscle tension is reduced and alpha waves are replaced by slower theta waves.

In regards to the comparison of female menopause and male climacteric, there are various differences between the two. However, both share similar qualities when looking at the male/female later mid-age stage of life. Female menopause is referred to as a woman’s final menstruation period. It is “a time in which women undergoes physiological changes, typically ranging from 2-5 years” (Zastrow and Kirst-Ashman, 2010). According to Chapter 10 in, “Understanding Human Behavior and The Social Environment”, the author states that menopause is caused by a decrease in the production of estrogen and typically begins from the age 36 to 51 years of age (Zastrow and Kirst-Ashman, 2010).
The graph shows the UK’s life expectancy rate continues up in a shallow positive gradient over the course of the allocated years (1960 to 2011), this is showing that there are good facilities in the UK which is keeping that line as steady as possible over the course of 51 years. These figures can be linked to topics I will cover on the following pages such as; access to clean water and number of doctors per one thousand people. Yet, in the coming years I do believe that the UK’s average body weight will get heavier as of all the food we are consuming on a daily bases, we also do not take our recommended exercise throughout the day which will harm future generations in minor and maybe even major ways. This means the life expectancy could slowly begin to turn negative and start to decrease where as Kenya’s life expectancy may increase as it becomes more developed. Poverty seems a paradox in a country that has one of the best-developed economies in eastern Africa.
This study examined the effect of Ramadan intermittent fasting on the diurnal alertness and oral temperature in 10 healthy young subjects. The cognitive task battery including movement reaction time (MRT), critical flicker fusion (CFF) and visual analogue scale, was administered at 6 different times of the day: 09.00, 11.00, 13.00, 16.00, 20.00 and 23.00 h on the 6th, 15th, and 28th days of Ramadan. The baseline day was scheduled one week before Ramadan, and the recovery day 18 days after this month. Oral temperature was measured prior to each test session and at 00.00 h. During Ramadan oral temperature decreased at 09.00, 11.00, 13.00, 16.00 and 20.00 h and increased at 23.00 and 00.00 h. Subjective alertness decreased at 09.00 and 16.00 h and
TM stresses certain techniques, such specific posture, focused attention, and openness. It is practiced every morning and evening for 20 minutes. The TM technique settles down ordinary thinking and ‘wakeful hypometabolic state’ is gained (Schneider et al., 2005). TM may be practiced for many reasons, such as to increase calmness and physical relaxation, to improve psychological balance, to cope with illness, and/or to enhance overall health and well-being. It is not fully known what changes occur in the body during
Dietary fiber add bulks to the stools and help them pass through the intestines, and out of the body faster. (Larson, 2016) Moreover, fiber can reduce cholesterol levels which is a major risk factor of heart disease. A study of Harvard University has shown that men who consume the highest level of dietary fiber (around 28.9 gram/day) had a 40% lower risk of heart disease. (CNN, 2013) Additionally, Mann (2013) has written that increasing fiber intake will aid weight loss, it will decrease abdominal obesity and belly fat. For every 10-gram increase in solute fiber eaten per day belly fat was reduced by almost 4% over five years, research showed.
