She takes the patients freedom away, and makes their stay at the hospital even worse. She does not let the men get a say in what they want, if they want something they get it after a long time, or they just do not get it at all. She knows the weak spots for all the patients, and just where to peck at them. The patients try to please her during the group meetings by telling her their darkest secrets, and then they feel deeply ashamed for how she made them act, even though they have done nothing. She maintains her power by the use of shame and guilt against the patients, making them feel horrible.
Both girls did very bad things to one another, but it is best to see the evidence from the opposing side first so a decision can be made on who is more of a victim. Elaine was a huge target for Lysandra’s anger to be disposed upon. Elaine won the poetry contest fairly by a meritocratic poem about a “shipwreck.” (128) In return, Lysandra ignored Elaine ever since she lost. Another strong connection between the two, are the hallucinations that they suffer. Jack hallucinates about past events there and a bartender named ‘Lloyd’. The whole thing takes place just for Delia’s submissiveness. If Delia has been audacious from earlier the whole situation would not take place. At the end Delia needs to use violence to get rid from her cruel husband. Delia, who really cares for her beloved husband, finally lets the snake free in the house for Sykes and when Sykes lastly screams when the snake assails him, Delia does not pay any attention of his screaming. When McMurphy goes over to confront her we see her slide the glass open this shows how nurse Ratched places herself as the higher authority and how much of a barrier there is between her the men. Another scene where Nurse Ratched belittles and takes away the men’s humanity is when she is talking to Billy Bibbit after finding the he had slept with Candy. When Billy first starts talking he is confident with no lisp but as soon as Nurse Ratched starts looking down on him and says to him “Billy I will have to tell your mother about your behaviour” billy shrinks and starts getting nervous making his lisp come back this scene symbolises how much Nurse Ratched downgrades Billy making him feel less confident and ashamed. This scene shows that even though all people no matter what race religion or gender have a right to freedom but that freedom can be cut down straight away by

Lady Macbeth deceives everyone so well that people were scared to tell her about Duncan’s death, not thinking she can handle it. “Look like an innocent flower /but be the serpent under it” (Macbeth I, IV, 65-66) this means to look innocent and pure but to be evil on the inside.
