PROTAGONISTS OF STRUGGLE, RESISTANCE AND LIBERTY IN CONTEMPORARY WORLD "Bhasha Andolon" Mutiny for the sake of language’ Let us begin with a scene from the award-winning Bangladeshi film ‘gohine shobdo’. One of the protagonists was a MUKTI JODHHA and he lost his leg in the liberation war. However,his country did not pay him back.He is shown as a beggar. Asked by a fellow beggar on what the country has given him in return for his extreme sacrifice he replies:- ‘ota tui bujhbi na.ei j tui banglae bhikha korchish er dam keu metate parbe na.TOKE RASHTRO BANGLA DIYECHE’ One of the eccentric elements of any form and type of resistance is the language. "Mother language is what a baby child communicates for the first time with mother and father. It is a language a person never forgets, wherever that person lives. The mother language is a prism that determines the first notions of the world to a baby child. The umbilical cord between mother tongue and thought is inseparable. It is the mother tongue that represents thought, culture and heritage of an individual." Bangladesh, then East Pakistan, bred one of the most revolutionary citadels of this language revolution called “Bhasha Andolon”. Bangla or Bengali is the native language to the region of eastern South Asia known as Bengal, which comprises present day Bangladesh, the Indian state of West Bengal, and parts of the Indian states of Tripura and Assam. With nearly 230 million total speakers, Bengali is one of the most spoken languages. With a long and rich literary heritage and a bloody history, Bengali binds together the people of this region, especially the people of Bangladesh, who predominantly speak in this language.
