Taking that first step in earning your degree will open the door of opportunity to you in ways that will increase your potential in landing a great job in the field of preferred study. Many employers prefer hiring someone with a college degree of some sort, some employers even require than every candidate have at least an associates degree. For example, if an employer has a choice of two candidates with equal experience and skill but one has a degree and the other doesn’t, the employer will most likely choose the person with a college degree. The benefits of a college degree increase the higher your degree is. Because some employers require candidates have a degree, getting an associates degree will open many doors.
When comparing a few of the commonly most analyzed factors in educational success- race, financial assets, and test scores – it becomes hard to determine the sole causes of success in an individual’s efforts, but easier to recognize patterns over groups of peoples (Storer et al. 40). Specifically when it comes to college graduation rates, race is still the strongest inherent indicator of success. That is, other factors affect the chances of graduating from college more drastically from one race to another race. This is the strongest indicator of success that is inherent because it is a quality that can be attributed to the individual that is not directly a consequence of a student’s actions while they are in school.
Those are the results of being more intelligent than being more popular more popular. Lastly if I finish and graduate college with good grades I have better chances of having a better job. I will most likely be hired for the job that I went to college for because I have the diploma. If I get hired for that job I will be paid a better amount of money. Those are three benefits that you will get if you’re more intelligent.
There are many pros and cons to these deciding factors. Some cons include: reduced options, more pressure, fewer liberties & less independence. Some pros include: saving money, close to family, & able to keep a stable job. First year generation students go to college for many reasons. They want to get a great job & establish a career, make good stable money, help out the family/ bring honor to the family, & they want to earn respect.

“Unnecessary Controversy” Unnecessary Controversy “Jims’ a nigger and wouldn’t understand it” (Twain 182). That’s what Huckleberry Finn says about Jim, a runaway slave that he is helping and as if black people are any less intelligent. The word “nigger” gives the story more meaning instead of what some people think offends the reader. Throughout the book, Huckleberry struggles with himself about whether he should be helping Jim or not and that struggle claws at the reader. Mark Twain, the author of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, made a good choice to include controversial words in the book to show racial injustice and should be taught in schools.
She has been awarded multiple times for her excellent work and excels still past the graduates that are coming into the position as of lately. With a gap year, college students are more likely to go to school with a purpose and want to do well and get good grades. Taking a one year break between high school and college allows motivation and interest to studying will be renewed. Excelling well in academics can help one get scholarships and will help them pay for their education, so they won’t have to pay as much. College can be very expensive,and not many people have the funds to pay for college.
Academically successful students will have more employment opportunities than those with less education. Thus, academic success may mean the difference between working at a job merely “because it pays the rent” and working at a job that one enjoys (Rentner & Kober, 2001, p. 15). Research also shows that people who are academically successful • are more stable in their employment; • are more likely to have health insurance; • are less dependent on public assistance; • are less likely to engage in criminal activity; • are more active as citizens and charitable volunteers; and • are more healthy (National Alliance of Business, Inc., 1998). According to Ruby Payne in her book , A Framework for Understanding Poverty, low achievement can be closely correlated with low socioeconomic status. Poverty can be related to academic achievement in the United States.
