Bento, lunchbox or bento box are the others name of bento, Bento isn’t as popular as cherry blossom, kimono, sadou but it appear in most of anime, especially in anime about school life, So: WHAT IS BENTO ? _ A simple explanation would be that it is the Japanese word for lunchbox. But for the Japanese people, bento is much more than food arranged in a box, or a quick lunch to take to school. In fact, making pretty boxed lunches is such an essential skill in Japan it is hard to find any woman that has not mastered it! _ The word “Bento” originated from shogun Oda Nobunaga who lived in 17th century, by distributing food to soldiers one by one, he has a big army in his city. In that time, Bento meant “ a plain meal is distributed”. _ Nowadays, Bento is very popular in Japanese society. You can easily find bento in a picnic, school lunch, festival or even in metro station. HOW TO MAKE BENTO ? _ Traditionally, Bento boxes have a 4:3:2:1 ratio of rice, Protein ( meat/fish), vegetables and desserts. This ratio promotes a healthy eating, balance of nutrition, but it is flexible, you can put more or less ingredients, or eliminate meat if you’re an vegetarian, it depends on your taste. _ And above all, the most important thing that make bento be special and attractive is not from its taste but from its look. Indeed, making bento is a time for creating and playing with food.
