The Death Penalty Should Be Implemented Crime is pervasive and impacts on many aspects of our day-to-day lives. Just look at the security at home to try and protect our own belongings. Burglar guards, electric fences, armed responses, countless security gates. Wherever we look, we find criminals and crime. Criminals have become a part of our daily lives. Does this mean we should let them be the darkness of our society? No, definitely not. Eliminating crime and criminals is our responsibility, and we should not ignore it. Some criminals commit a crime because they have no other option to survive, usually this is petty crime such as purse snatching or house theft. But some criminals perform their crimes for pure profit or just for the hell of it. I do not advocate the death penalty for everybody. A person, who stole bread from a grocery store, definitely does not deserve the death penalty. However, a serial killer, who kills people for fun or for his personal gain, definitely deserves the death penalty. The punishment meted out should fit the severity of the crime. The death penalty should continue in order to “eliminate” those who do not contribute positively towards society. Firstly, the death penalty serves as an effective deterrent and helps in reducing crime, knowing that they could lose their lives. Secondly, it is true that death penalty is irreversible, but it is hard to kill a wrongly convicted person due to the several chances given to the convicted to prove his innocence with the appellate systems in place with the existing justice system, otherwise why does every country in the world have one? Thirdly, death penalty assures safety of the society by eliminating these criminals, thus eliminating repeat offenders.
