50 years ago this was totally unheard of. I personally think our society has changed their opinions about women and I have no problem with that. As Hillary Clinton said in one of her speeches “Women’s rights, are human rights”. As I have already mentioned earlier there are very many intelligent, powerful and successful women who are not afraid or hide away once people start to question and argue over a point of view. Of the many successful women out there, I have chosen three.
They include the work of the suffragettes’ who caused chaos and grabbed the spotlight away from the suffragists’ after a group of women decided it was time to make a militant stand. Also woman’s work war work was a massive contribution to them gaining the vote, it showed that woman could work just as well as the men could and respect was gained. Women worked on the front line as bearers for the injured soldiers, this showed tremendous bravery and strength they also worked in the medical areas helping men recover or heal from their injuries. Finally the changing attitudes of the government and society helped women with their stand, the women’s persistence was important, they showed heart and character in continuing to maintain their support, time and effort to gain
Although women have the right to vote today, this is quite different compared with women’s condition back in the late 1800’s. Women were treated unfairly; they just belonged to their husbands who were able to control all of their rights and use a moderate coercion if they were disloyal or disobedient. Being a woman who is willing to break the rules to bring back a freedom life for all women, Susan B. Anthony tried to vote for a presidential election and was arrested due to being female in 1872. During her trial, Anthony published a speech “On Women’s right to vote”. In her speech, the main reason Anthony was successful in persuading her audience was that she clearly established an exigent circumstance early and effectively adapted her writing to the kairos of the moment.
Nero’s power and strength derived from his mother, Agrippina the Younger. At the beginning of his rule Agrippina acted as a regent, taking control of many aspects of the empire. She manipulated Nero so much that she in essence ran the empire from behind the scenes. Her constant predilection for manipulation eventually causing her son’s rebellion and possible madness as he began to despise her, giving way to her fall of power and ultimately her death. In the words of Tacitus, “she could give her son the empire, but not endure him as emperor”.
In my point of view from all the research I have done women tend to have more interest in political events and are interested in what is happening around them and how it is going to affect them and their families. Another example of a woman role model in politics is Ms. Sonia Sotomayor. She was in a poor position since a young age but as she expressed her feelings and continued to have excellent grades she progressed; after all the hard work she has put into her education she is now the 1st Hispanic women and 3rd in line female to become an associate justice in the supreme
Women athletes have made huge strides since Title IX but there is still room for improvement. The media coverage of female athletes needs to change for all the young girls who look up to these female athletes as role models and the mass media needs to take a more active role and cover male and female sports equally. (Will Anything Change, http://femaleathletes.wordpress.com/, May 5, 2008) The text was directed mostly toward women athlete community, while speaking to any woman who has had experience with the culture of the athlete community also; targeting male and female to understand the discriminating
“Women proved by their work during WWI that they deserved the vote.” How accurate is this view that women only received the vote because of their war efforts? Introduction: Notice the difference in debate and line of argument. By doing something like this, it immediately gives the impression of a top band ‘A’ essay. The line of argument is decisive and removes all ‘sitting on the fence’! This provides your essay with a clear, structured argument.
After prophet Mohamed died and left her a childless widow, Aisha later became very active in politics and actually led the “Battle of the Camel” against Ali, the fourth caliph, and the shia leader which she lost. Denise Spellberg’s book “Politics, Gender and the Islamic past; The Legacy of Aisha Bint Abi Bakr”is about how Aishas image has been altered by the male Islamic scholars of a later time to serve as more desirable and less threatening idol for muslim women to follow. Part of what makes these male muslim scholars so eager to alter her image so much is because she was so many things at once and therefore harder to categorize. She wasn’t just prophet Muhammad's (pbuh) wife, she was also the daughter of the second caliph, Abu Bakr, and she continued to become active and relevant in the Islamic world even after her husband’s death. This
Women are considered second class citizens and have to serve their husbands and male children. Thankfully, female circumcision is something that has not been practiced in the world I grew up, but between 100 million and 140 million females have been circumcised worldwide in the name of Allah (Henslin, 289).Yet, female circumcision is not the only crime that has been committed in the name of God. Thousands of women are killed through lapidation and many become victims of honor killings that are done in order to restore the family’s reputation as being faithful. I believe that all the inequality, discrimination, abuse and violence that occur in Muslim countries and within families are not caused by the religion itself but by people interpreting religious scripture to their benefit and advantage. Furthermore, Islam being the youngest religion of the three religions discussed in the book, Christianity and Judaism had more time to grow and evolve and become more civilized religions.
It will also feature the life and funeral of Margret Thatcher, the first woman Britain prime minister. The media has seen to greatly influence the life of the ordinary citizens of a country. For example body image. The media has in the past represented an ideal body size for the ultimate beauty. The size has mostly been about women.
