This shows that the gang sees the community as a whole as one. Yet possibly only some of the community frown upon their actions. This common theme of isolation also reoccurs in the text. The isolation is further shown through the connection from the boys to the beach. “The beach has been parents to many boys from Maroubra, it has saved many boys lives”.
On the waterfront is the story of Terry Malloy’s journey to self-respect. Do you agree? Terry Malloy describes himself as a “bum” in the beginning of the movie On the Waterfront and then unconsciously desires self-respect. Edie Doyle represents innocence and purity and she has a positive impact on Terry. She makes him asses his self-worth and his role in Johnny Friendly’s gang, who he met through his only family Charley Malloy.
The setting of the story is connected to theme loss of innocence. By reading the beginning of the story, and its title "Sandcastles,” you think it’s going to be a nice relaxing day at the beach for the three boys. However, when the woman comes into play she changes the whole mood of the story from fun a day for the boys exploring to a darker plan of sadness and death. The reason why the story’s theme is loss or innocence is because when the boys came to the beach they were expecting to have a fun-relaxing day. Until they run into a woman on a remote beach who deceives them into helping her end her life.
Jerry starts off the story in safety but quickly moves into love and belonging which becomes evident in this piece of literature, “he preserved his nervous, uncomprehending smile, they understood that he was a foreigner strayed from his own beach, and they proceeded to forget him. But he was happy. He was with them.” In this segment of “Through The Tunnel,” it shows Jerry’s entry to love and belonging simply by the statement “ a foreigner strayed from his own beach,” what this shows is that Jerry has left his comfort zone, and is now curious and ready to reach for the unknown. Another point that proves this is the wording used, this shows that he is still a child because he can not control his enthusiasm of feeling like he belongs which is also shown in the statement, “But he was happy, he was with them,” which also shows Jerry's advancement because even though he is no longer the focus of their attention, it no longer
Phineas, as shown in the passage, remains unfazed by the war and continues to reflect his innocence. Gene’s diction throughout his narration helps to reveal Finny’s personality, but also hints to the major theme of war. For example, Gene recalls,”…I bent cheerfully over to help him up,” this shows how despite the fact that Finny had turned on Gene and later on everyone, Gene still happily helped Finny up. This reflects his personality because it is nearly impossible to become angry at Phineas, his constant fun-loving attitude, rubs off on others. Finny’s personality is also reflected in Gene’s diction when Gene says how Finny had a “steadily widening grin,” when he “was driven down beneath a blizzard of snowballs.” This exemplifies Phineas’ personality because he was at his happiest when the tables were turned against him and there would be no chance of any distinct winners or losers.
The rhythm of the poem is constructed in such a way as to confront the reader, and the language used throughout the poem changes from being very soft and comforting, to blunt and shocking. The image of the beach is also particularly important, as beaches represent beauty and purity. Even though this poem was written from an Australian author’s perspective, it does

For throughout the book the narrator and Oscar makes a lot of “nerd” references. The important thing about these symbols is that the author is acknowledging that Oscar is a nerd because it is essential to the way the story plays out. We see how Oscar and the narrator relate things in his life to comic books, video games, and role playing games. This shows how Oscar and the narrator always will remember what he loved the most. Oscar uses these references to show how he deals with life problems.
It has helped young teens in time of depression and solitude. The rave culture accepts these people that need to find a place in the world where no one will judge them by their past, family life, interests and dress code. On the beach they will be the ones playing in the sand and feeling the warm sun on their backs. These people are the ones that touch everything before they buy it. They will not worry if their environment is cluttered or messy, because they can not see it but feel it is okay.
