In lines six thru ten Anne describes what she remembered seeing at the circus with the Father. She talks about what she saw in the past tense, for example the “distant thump of the good elephants, the voice of the ancient lions, and how the bells trembled for the flying man.” This lets the audience know that this occurred a long time ago, when she was a child. In lines eleven through fifteen I could relate to how Anne felt about her Father. It reminded me of my fond memories with my Father as well.
