Bad Streets The streets and highways in the city are terrible. There are potholes, trash, and lack of space on the road. It seems like I pay my taxes for nothing. The road shouldn’t put unnecessary, excessive amounts of wear and tear on my vehicle. I am tired of seeing fast food garbage and broken glass on the side of the roads and the rush hour traffic on the expressway is ridiculous. Some of the main roads need to be repaved. Last week I experienced a flat tire because of the potholes on Smithville. I had to buy a new tire and rim to fix my automobile. During the winter water freezes in these potholes and makes them bigger. I have seen street crews filling in the potholes with asphalt, but after a few months the asphalt breaks up from the stress of traffic and the potholes are back again. The street crews pour hot tar over the cracks in the street, but in doesn't cool the summer heat and the tar is slung down the side of my car. The amount of garbage and on the side of the road is sickening. If a clean up crew is constantly on patrol the shoulders on the roads should look a lot better. I don’t see the street sweeper as often anymore. Nails and glass can flatten a tire and it could be dangerous. The debris is building up. Maybe work release programs should be mandatory for jail mates with a considerable amount of time. I don’t think the litter fines are working. Road rage is getting bad these days with larger amounts of people on the road. The freeway has some very dangerous merging interstates and state routs. Some of the entry rams are too short for the high-speed traffic. Sometimes the street rout I take to work is better than going to the freeway. I sure with all the money sent by working and living in this city, our streets could be fixed and kept up properly. Instead of fixing the potholes the cheap way, fix it right the first time and forget
