Travis Walker 1301-01 Thesis Statement: Raising A Baby Squirrel can be fun and rewarding yet difficult and disappointing. I found the baby squirrel whenever he was about four weeks old. I walked out of the house on a Friday morning and both of our cats came running inside from underneath the car, which was unusual. So, I walked outside and looked under the car and there was a baby squirrel hugged up to the front drivers side tire fighting for his life. Apparently the cats had been tormenting him all night long. I found a leather glove and put it on because I didn't know if the baby would bite me or not. I reached under the car and picked him up. I could tell immediately that he was injured. He was so hurt that I thought he was going to die. The cats had already bitten him and scratched him. He had a wounded leg and couldn't really crawl because of it. He tried but kept spinning around in circles. His eyes were glazed over and gray looking. I went to tell my wife what I had found. I had to do something to save this little guy!! I called around trying to find a vet or anyone who could tell me what to do. I found out there are not many people in our area that will care for a baby squirrel. Finally, I got on the phone and called Texas Parks and Wildlife and they gave me a number to a lady in Beaumont named Ann Reynolds. Ann…show more content…
We broke all of the rules Mrs. Reynolds had given us. My wife and I grew to love him as a pet. We would watch TV together, I would take him places with me in the car, and sometimes if I was in bed he would come find me and snuggle in next to me. If I was walking from room to room he would come find me if I was gone too long. We kept him in a kennel and made him a nest out of wood chips, cotton, and tree limbs. It was amazing to watch him grow right in front of our eyes. We desperately wanted to build something for him and keep him, but we knew that he wouldn't be happy in
