Awareness of Bullying in Schools Bullying is generally cruel, malicious, or humiliating behavior towards a person or even a group of various aged people. It is demeaning and can cause untold stress, anger and suffering to those on the receiving end, which in some cases can lead to suicide. ”Helen Cowie explained what factors contribute to an individual becoming a bully, and what might protect against this. Risk factors include: a disrupted home life, harsh parental discipline, peer delinquency, living in an area with a high crime rate, and the use of alcohol.” Bullies hurt people because it makes them feel powerful and in charge. Bullies may see it as being popular. In some cases a bully has often been bullied by someone else in their life and is trying to seek attention by hurting others. Some bullies do not even realize how wrong their behavior is and how severely damaging it can be. All this actions are causing parents to sue their child’s tormentor just because he/she can’t stand up for themselves. According to Elie Mystal “not every torment is not a crime, and not every bully is a criminal.” The fact that Ken Trump created the Anti-Bullying Legislation to enforce school discipline policies with strategies which include anti-bullying initiatives, and balanced security measures with less bullying and fewer safety threats to children. The Anti-Bullying Legislation received national attention after the suicide of Rutgers University student Tyler Clementi. Because of the incident, New Jersey strengthened its anti-bullying legislation by passing a bill called “The Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights.” Garden State Equality Chairman Steve Goldstein called New Jersey's bill the "toughest" anti-bullying law in the country.
