Please also welcome the superintendent of NYC public schools, Kanye West. Kanye, why do you want the book to be banned from schools? K: Well, first of all, I think my life experiences helped me make this decision. I grew up on the streets of Atlanta without any friends or family. I don’t want kids reading about how hard life can be on the streets, and I especially don’t want them to learn all about the effects of drugs
Two Jehovah's Witness school children, ages 10 and 12, Lillian and William Gobitis were suspended from school for refusing to salute the American flag in Minersville, Pennsylvania. The Gobitis children were Jehovah's Witnesses; they believed that such a gesture of respect for the flag was forbidden by their religion. Their parents claimed that the children's' due process rights had been violated by the school district, they believed their children had the right to refuse to say the Pledge. In an 8-to-1 decision, the Court upheld the mandatory flag salute The Court held that the state's interest in "national cohesion" was "inferior to none in the hierarchy of legal values" and that national unity was the idea of national security. The court found that the flag was an important symbol of national unity and that school children should respect and salute

Martha Z. Ocana 01/10/2012 GOVT 2305 Reaction Essay #1 Today I watched several videos of de Westboro Baptist Church. This people should be banned from the media in my opinion, this should not be freedom of speech. Freedom of speech should be when you’re defending a point but not hurting anyone else. It should be when you fight against people like these. I don’t know how the government allows these people to even live, they are causing damage and pain to soldier families and to gay people, the words are so hurtful and damaging that it can even lead someone to commit suicide or kill one of their members, which they’re putting themselves and their children in danger too.
To Kill a Mockingbird essay In the book, To Kill a Mockingbird, there are two plots being focused on in the story. First off, Tom Robinson, the humble African American man who is accused of raping southern teenager, Mayella Ewell. In the early 1930s, especially Maycomb County, Mississippi, everyone hated African Americans, and were extremely racist. So, when Atticus Finch, father of Jean Louise Finch, A.K.A "scout" is sentenced to represent Tom in court, things get crazy in Maycomb. Secondly, Arthur "Boo" Radley, the mystery of the town, no one really knows anything about him, just that he's been locked inside the house since he was young.
These groups were determined to prevent integration at all costs. In 1957 the principal of Little Rock High School was getting death threats and threats to bomb the school. Yet another cause was that Eisenhower had little faith in the measures to support the Black community in the south because a change in heart was required and you can not enforce that. He felt that enforcing these laws may make matters even worse. When Eisenhower finally did something and sent the 1,000 paratroopers, a lot of the people in America were extremely annoyed, the west and north were angry that it didn't happen sooner and the south were angry that it happened at all, and disowned Eisenhower as a southerner.
Victimization is a consistent theme that is first demonstrated through the character Tom Robinson. Tom Robinson faced a great amount of abuse by the citizens of Maycomb. During his rape trial, Tom Robinson was discriminated against while he took the stand. “ ‘Strong enough to choke the breath out of a woman and sling her to the floor?’ ” (Lee, 196). Mr. Gilmer, the prosecutor, used Tom’s race and physical strength to imply that Tom was just another stereotypical black man who targeted a fair skinned female.
