ASSESS THE IMPORTANCE OF THE GENEVA PEACE AGREEMENT TO DEVOLOPEMENTS WITHIN NORTH AND SOUTH VIETNAM TO 1964 The Geneva Peace Agreement led to a lot of problem to both North and South Vietnam. This one event caused different difficulties in the aspects of political, economic and social within South and North Vietnam to 1964. The impact of the agreement that took place in Geneva by the nine delegations, The Us, Soviet Union , Britain, France, China , Cambodia , Laos , the Vietminh and Bao Dai government based in south Vietnam was enormous , the Vietnam society was divided on the 17th parallel into Communist North Vietnam and Democratic south Vietnam. Division had a huge ramification upon the political economic and social reforms in both north and south, such as land reforms, food shortages and famine lack of expertise & need for investment foreign powers with their own agendas. The agreement also provided elections to be held in 1956 to create a united and independent Vietnam. Restricted movement between North and South Vietnam in 300 days allowed. The strong desire of a Vietnamese unification was a feeling that the leader of the North Vietnam Ho Chi Minh had for Vietnam, the importance of the Geneva agreement is that he was just meant to ruled only half of Vietnam and not the whole country as he wished. Everyone thought that he was going to win the elections of 1956 but they never took place. The way the north Vietnam political aspect was organised was not like the south it had included the opinion of the population and workers. However the issues on the economic and social aspect also affected the political as a result of the agreement. Everything they wanted to achieved in the political aspect could not be accomplished by their own, because of the lack of resources, the political aspect was affected also and had to rely on the soviet union and China but Minh had
