Leadership Interview Danielle Johnson June 3rd, 2013 NUR/492 Rachel Gonzales Leadership Interview According to Sullivan (2013), “a leader is anyone who uses interpersonal skills to influence others to accomplish a specific goal” (p. 41). In today’s health care field, leadership can be used in many roles from charge nurse to nurse manager to unit director. Different nursing backgrounds, personalities, and personal philosophy of leadership can affect how someone will interpret the term “leadership.” Background/Role Today An interview was done with the Director of Nursing, Dawn, at a local community college. Her background consisted of completing her Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing in 1998, and she has since been in a nursing role for the past 15 years. She has worked in urban and rural hospital settings in a variety of roles, including staff nurses, supervisory/administrative, and education.
I also remember taking a class at Kaplan for my undergraduate program that the professor completely and totally told us that Wikipedia was a very viable site to get primary source information for his research papers. He encouraged us to use the website for information but also be aware of any vandalism that may be apparent in certain topics. Personally, I would only use Wikipedia as a pre-search tool for better information. Inappropriate: As Clay Burell said, I’ve been skimming Wikipedia’s own policies for writing and research, and Lo! The Great Wikipedia itself tells its writers the very things I was trying to tell my young fundies.” (2010) In most cases, most school, libraries or any type of educational program will tell you that Wikipedia is a very good start to get to know about the subject that a person is studying.
She has attained twenty-four years of experience and still loves her career. My second interviewee, who on the other hand is currently still attending Pasadena City College but just completed her registered nurse certification. She is currently employed in a convalescent facility where she puts into practice the knowledge that she was given in nursing school. She will be transferring this fall to continue forth and eventually earn her degree, Bachelor in Science of Nursing. One vital area of the nursing discourse is communication within their colleagues,
The information I learned from completing the Ethical Lens Inventory showed me how to make decisions that are ethically mature. These ethically mature decisions are necessary in pursuing academic integrity. Academic integrity includes being honest, not cheating, and citing properly. As stated by Aaron and Roche (2013), “Cheating related to assignments can range from copying one answer to submitting an entire assignment taken from another source.” (p. 168) By being honest, I resist the temptation to take shortcuts and steal other people’s ideas. According to my instructor, Denise Finney, cheating causes one to miss learning valuable information.
Ms. C. felt that she utilized her BSN degree in a multitude of ways by applying the foundational elements to her nursing practice, the administrative education with budgeting and financial needs of her department, and the effective leadership skills needed to manage the staff, physicians and the patient. Ms. G. felt that her many years as a nurse and obtaining her BSN prepared her for educating new staff as well as current staff in development and growth as new procedures and technology were introduced into the nursing profession. She also felt challenging the certification exam in her specialty made her highly qualified to perform her job as an educator. How would you explain the unique contributions you as a

Learning is an experience needed to move forward in our day to day activities. More education brings more opportunity. The more educational experience you have, the more doors are open for you, just like many doors are open to nurses with a BSN, than nurses with a diploma or an associate degree. An associate degree nurse is a nurse with three years nursing training which are usually offered at community colleges. After graduating from the program the associate nurse is qualified to take the National Council Licensure Exam (NCLEX) to become a registered nurse.
As a high school student I dreamed of obtaining my Bachelors of Science in Nursing and as a graduate I will strive to obtain my masters and someday even a doctoral degree. I want to be the best that I can be at any level and will work hard to excel in any situation that comes my way. As a family nurse practitioner I will be lucky enough to be able to provide care for all age groups of patients and families. I would like to work in a setting where I can work with various populations such as a community clinic or even a primary care physician’s office. Some other goals that I am working towards or have achieved include certifications such as; ACLS, PALS, CCRN, and a bachelors degree in Spanish language.
Patricia Benner: from Novice to Expert by Grand Canyon University NURS502 September 29, 2012 Patricia Benner: from Novice to Expert As experienced nurses we all have the opportunity to work with nursing students and new graduate nurses. It is always fascinating to watch their transition from that of the nursing student to that of primary caregiver. One of this committee’s obligations is to be there to help them develop in this role; whether as a leader, an educator, a mentor or peer. Upon graduation from nursing school, the expectation changes for the graduate nurse. Armed with the latest in EBP, the most recent nursing knowledge, and freshly learned skills, the new nurse is expected, by some, to function at the same level as every other experienced nurse on their unit.
Career Exploration “Caring is the essence of nursing,” quoted Jean Watson. I plan on graduating at Valencia College, where I will be receiving an A.S degree in nursing in June of 2013. The scope of practice for the Associate Degree Nurse is to provide and manage care for a diverse group of individuals, families and communities in collaboration with members of the health care team. The Associate's Degree in nursing program offers the quickest path to becoming an entry level Registered Nurse. In the nursing field there’s many task and responsibilities you are required to do.
