Students can be taught what is appropriately creative in order to guide them to the enhancement of their creative intelligences. Then, if the students still need to learn math and science, they can more easily with the creativity and confidence regarding their abilities that they pick up in the arts. Both types of intelligences use one another in order serve a better purpose in the greater scheme of things. So they cannot really be compared because what one discipline deems important, the other may not and so on. We as humans cannot compare r individual accomplishments amongst ourselves to others in accomplishments because everyone is coming from different circumstances.
Erica Goldson Valedictorian Speech Response Erica Goldson brought up a very controversial and very interesting topic about our current education system in the US. She states that students are so focused at memorizing data and getting good grades, that they miss out on the whole idea of learning and being educated. I agree with her, students should be learning and absorbing the material, instead of memorizing for the next big test and just forgetting about it later on. Graduating seems like the top priority in students nowadays, and to me that is just upsetting. And the students who are very talented and are very motivated to learn and be driven in a non-academic subject seem to have a more negative image than the people who are driven by academics.
The students that truly want to be a part of a sport would strive for the opportunity to be on the team. An individual can argue that not all students are great in academics so therefore those students will not have the opportunity to play sports. That statement is not true. The standard is being set to allow students to do their best and sometimes their best is a “C”; that is acceptable. At that time this will give room of improvement with tutors and other resources that will allow the students to achieve higher grades.
Because they have their own business in school or after-school, they reject to stop their extracurricular instead to do more homework. So how to influence them to change their mind? In other word, how to let their performance same as the “A” students. Probably a lot of parents would say “No!”. Of course they can, the “C” students have same ability as the “A” students.
Students will be less focused in school, and less likely to continue their educations, if they dread going to school each day. Including art and music in he curriculum will motivate students, and will inspire them to enjoy school. It will also give them a creative outlet. Many young people have trouble expressing their emotions in words, but find that the can communicate their ideas through music and art. Giving students an opportunity to create every day will keep them engaged in learning, keep frustration at bay, and lead to happier, more fulfilled children.
Children are really missing their enjoyment. Nowadays schools are mainly concentrating in studies and bring out 100% result. And the pressure upon students is much on their studies with much special classes and tuitions. They don't know the life of other extracurricular activities like sports, swimming, drawing, etc. Still there are some schools which have these also as one of the subjects and make them to improve their talents in all ways.
We have age limits and restriction on many things, but why does are education system expect these young kids to make the right choices, ask for help and develop good study habits on their own. Our education system needs a new approach to resolve these issues. Teachers and parents need to be held responsible, for how well these kids do in school. We need come up with a new plan so these students aren’t left lost and helpless. Flunking students can be used as a positive tool by our education system.
Gatto is saying that schooling is made for kids to adapt to; it has adaptive qualities, therefore there is a chance for everyone to succeed if they really want to, but it takes away from any individual thinking. Conforming is another evil of school because it makes us forced to learn things we really have no interest in and as Gatto states “its intention is to make children as alike as possible”(153). A lot of students use this excuse while they are in high school “when am I ever going to use this again in life” ill be honest I have said it before but I don't necessarily agree with these students because you need to build a base education before you figure out what you want your schooling to focus on. Kids change their minds everyday, I realized that I’m not quite sure I want to be an art major anymore, even being in the first couple of classes I knew it wasn’t for me
Incorporating more relevant information into the curriculum, will allow students to become more interested. Of course this will not apply to every student that walks through the classroom doors, because every student is unique, but these modifications will benefit the majority of the student
“The institutions traditionally procure, provide and control the technology for learning but now students are acquiring their own personal technologies for learning and institutions are challenged to keep pace” (Research in Technology Learning, 2010). Computers and other technical devices that are being used to enhance student learning helps to make teaching more creative and effective; however, it has also caused a lot of confusion and chaos in regards to ethics.
