Segregation in Schools Sociologists of today have been asking themselves the question, why are schools in the south resegregating? There are several reason why this event has occurred. First, families send their children to private schools, such as parochial schools. These Parents believe it is important to offer religious instruction along with their regular education. Second, the government allows families to homeschool their children. In many states homeschooling is on the rise, "North Carolina, already a home-schooling hotbed, saw a 14 percent rise last year in the number of students being educated at home, according to a report from Heartlander Magazine. Similar increases have been seen in Virginia, California and New York, according to education activists" (Chiaramonte, 2014). Thirdly, as…show more content…
