From watching this film many ethical issues were evident which include the lack of autonomy and veracity. Likewise, doctors violating the principle of non-maleficence and some evidence beneficence principle were also noted. When Anna decided to sue her parents for medical emancipation, the principle of autonomy becomes apparent. Autonomy, which is, defines as the ability of a person to make his or her own decisions. When the Fitzgerald’s decide to have another baby, it was to save their daughter Kate’s life; they genetically engineered Anna to be a saviour for her sister.
Re: Mr. Andrew Carter Sterilization of Anne Carter Facts: Issue: Under what circumstances is sterilization of a minor legal in N.J? Discussion: It is a very tight line that we will ride when litigating this case, if we go to trial. There are many courts that have decided against doing this type of procedure. “The court held the right to the sterilized is included in the privacy rights of the federal and state constitutions (more specifically the right to reproductive autonomy). The court then went on to explain that because this constitutional right is personal to the individual, the Court through its parens patriae power must see to it that the right is protected.
Case Study Outline Case 1- The Case of Leanne Step 1: Develop ethical sensitivity. * Is there an ethical dilemma? Why or why not? * Yes there is; she was sexually abused and is a minor still living with the abuser so you are legally required to report but she doesn’t want you to * Promoting client welfare and maintaining informed consent and trying to maintain confidentiality while still abiding by the law and protecting client * Understanding your personal competence and boundaries on addressing and dealing with child abuse and seeking education and information where lacking * Not letting own experience with abuse cloud judgment * Whose welfare is affected by your actions, and how? * Leanne’s
General Purpose: To persuade Specific Purpose: To persuade my audience to think twice before making the decision to take the life of an unborn child. Central Idea: Although convenient, abortions are cruel and inhumane alternatives to pregnancy. Introduction Abortion is one of the most controversial and important topics of our generation. The number of people that choose to have an abortion is a growing problem but it could be improved through awareness. I know that no one wants to have an unplanned pregnancy but what if one day you found yourself in that very situation.
In the case study 1 ”Controversial Transplant a Success,” Steve Karnowski writes about the case of a 6 year old girl, Molly, who suffered from a genetic disorder that is seldom seen, called Fanconi anemia, which interrupts the body from manufacturing bone marrow and that would lead to her death. In order to solve that problem, her parents thought about the embryos research and decided to pursue that option. After that decision, the doctor fertilized 12 eggs from Lisa, Molly’s mother, and tested 10 of the embryos, froze eight of them, and discarded one embryo that tested positive for the disease. Then, the doctor selected one of the embryos, who they named Adam and who was genetically
As the day we came into this world, we are secured to be treated with respect and granted freedom. Although parents have the rights to speak in their children's lives, it is wrong for them to manipulate and control every aspect of their lives. If our parents’ actions become excessively intolerable, it should be our right to demonstrate against such power and shut them down, to the benefit of the children. The history of our nefarious parents calls for independence from such overpowering power. To prove our arguments, let our facts be submitted, they have told us to challenge ourselves to take Honors and Advanced Placement courses to improve our grades, but constantly nagging us for having too much homework.
Where clearly has brought a difficult situation to the healthcare team of the hospital raising ethical and legal issues in all aspects due to the fact that the parents of the pregnant teen have refused any assistance and the nurse assigned has complied silently. This scenario compromises patient safety and puts the minor and child in medical danger. Not only are the lives of the minor and the teen in danger but also it raises an ethical issue of the hospital and patients’ rights. It would make sense to attempt to provide all medical attention necessary to promote patient safety for the sake of the minor and unborn child but also it is important to evaluate the legal liability of the hospital to determine if the parents have all the rights and responsibility in decision making for their daughter. Therefore, treating all patients fairly is an ethical duty of the hospital and staff with respect to values and beliefs.
Should parents be held legally responsible for their children’s actions? Do you think parents should be held legally responsible for their children’s actions? Well, you are probably thinking it depends on the way you look at it. In my opinion, I do not think parents should be held legally responsible for the actions or crimes of their children. The question really is why the parents would be held responsible for the crimes or actions of their children.
She also claims that the antiabortionists are fighting against the rights of women and the ability of free choice. McElroy’s argument for abortion wasn’t convincing and most of the claims presented needed more support. I believe that abortion should be illegal unless in some special cases such as rape and situations where the mother’s health can be affect by the pregnancy. The main issue of abortion is the fetus’ life. It all comes down to when it become a human.
Reasons Why Abortion Should Not Remain Legal For ages, the concern over unplanned pregnancies has been a source of anguish for men and women worldwide. One possible solution to this problem has been the procedure of an abortion. The morality of abortion and its possible effects have produced much criticism from many societies. Further, the conflicting views on abortion have generated a great deal of controversy: some advocate that abortion is ethically immoral, while others believe that the ability of a woman to have control over her body is critical to her civil rights. Moreover, abortion should not remain legal because there are other options to deal with an unwanted pregnancy; some women become dependent on this procedure as a way out; and having an abortion can be harmful to the physical and emotional health of the mother.
