As long as the organization is maximizing the utility with the decisions they make, the good utilitarian accountant should not worry themselves with the moral implications of the decisions they made. This is because moral decisions should be based on the "ends" not the "means." One way decisions can be assessed by a good accountant is to see what utility the other decisions would have brought the society. In this way, there can be a valuation for utility opportunity costs that can help users determine the impact of management's decisions. Any opportunity costs that lower overall utility created show that utility is not being maximized.
There is but little virtue in the action of masses of men” (p. 968, Thoreau). To Thoreau, voting is a sort of scheme based on chance and is does nothing for the moral right rather the majority rule. This quote explains a voter whose side is defeated, submits readily to the majority. Therefore, the majority vote may determine justice that is unacceptable to the transcendentalist belief in pure moral goodness. Thoreau believes that legislation or
If one can remain completely honest their word would never be tarnished there by affording them more opportunities. An impeccable person demands your full trust. One of my personal beliefs is that there is never a real reason to lie. When one becomes perceived as a liar it becomes your human nature to protect yourself from them. However you may have felt about them before, you can’t help but distance yourself from them now.
Examples like “Examination day” supports this because the government stays in power by having strict laws which limit citizens intelligence. The Giver supports the claim because the government limits citizens knowledge by wiping memories and limiting their emotions. “Harrison Bergeron” supports the claim because the government there controls society through strict rules which limit uniqueness so they are “average”. With all this evidence and analysis we will ask this question, do people really want a government that controls society and do the horrible things stated above or should our goal be to help citizens and have a government that doesn’t restrict
Andy Eakes 12/11/10 P.4 Mr. Jimenez If you lived in Concord, Massachusetts during the 1830’s and 1840’s you would have definitely heard of Henry David Thoreau, but you wouldn’t have thought as highly of him as we do today. You would’ve most likely thought he was crazy. During Thoreau’s time there was a huge dispute over the American and Mexican border, which led to a war that angered many people. The only problem was that nobody wanted to oppose the government. Everyone kept their thoughts to themselves.
The way police handles combating crime and brutality most attempts to redeem police image would involve education for both public and the police on the effectiveness crime control measures. The police are subject to moral temptations that can affect the way a job is done, the temptations can outweigh their paycheck this is a difficult position for any officer. The police deals with major drug dealing, gang bangers even white collar
Thoreau then talks about the issue of change through democratic ways. He believes that the real problem is trying to reform with those who don’t approve of the government choices but silently offer their loyalty. Thoreau sees an opposite relationship between money and freedom. The poor man has the greatest freedom to fight because he depends the least on the government
The beliefs of Brigham Young and the Latter-day Saints had been challenged for thirty years. The Mormons literally ran out of anywhere else to escape and build their sanctuary. Their morals and values received constant challenge and they themselves were frequently and violently confronted. The Mormons found themselves as outcasts in their own country. The first amendment of the U.S. Constitution only seemed to apply to those with more conventional
Most people really do not know the whole Constitution and it’s entirely but if they did there would be many things they would think is constitional and do not need to be changed. Madison believed to cure the problem remove the cause or control it. We have been using this all this time so obviously it is under control. Now if we decide to make a new one it is not going to make many people happy. It’s possible it will cause many problems and possibly another recession.
The United States of America is known as the land of the free; it is the land where throughout history millions have traveled long and far to for religious and political freedom. But, over the past few years many have debated whether this country really allows the freedom it promises. The concept of gay marriage has divided the American people over the past few years. It is still not permitted in the United States in several areas and people believe that there are many reasons for this. “Marriage is both ubiquitous and central.
