To some people, it’s a relaxing herb, something to temporarily pull the mind off reality. Others view it as a harmful drug with numerous side effects. Marijuana, also known as Cannabis or weed, is one of the most controversial drugs worldwide. It comes from the Indian hemp plant, and the part that contains the “drug” is found primarily in the flowers. When sold, it is a mixture of dried out leaves, stems, flowers and seeds of the hemp plant; it is usually green, brown or gray in color. With a few exceptions, the use of weed is banned for many reasons including the loss interest in health, life, school activities and social life. Marijuana is the most widely used drug today which demonstrates the failure of keeping it illegal. Also, the crop itself is worth tens of thousands of dollars, which could benefit our economy overall. Finally, the medicinal use could be a tremendous help to patients around the globe. The many arguments against the legalization of marijuana have valid counter arguments. For instance, although legalizing marijuana would cause controversy for the legalization of other more harmful drugs, there would need to be effective, and arguable reasons in order to actually permit their use. Furthermore, traffic violations could cease to increase exceptionally if rules and regulations were established to prevent smoking and driving. Lastly, marijuana is the one of only a few drugs that has not been a cause of death. So, life threating health hazards should not be an issue when talking about legalization. Therefore, allowing marijuana to become lawful would inclusively be beneficial for the economy, the public, and the nation as a
