Tevin Hutchinson 11/10/2012 English 102 Technology plays a huge role in our everyday life. I do believe that technology has made our lives easier, but it also has made us more dependent on the technology itself. When using the internet for a dictionary you could easily get distracted. Anyone can put anything on the internet, so what you find might not be accurate. Most people find that looking things up on the internet is distracting because you are already on the web so why not check YouTube for a funny video, or update your status on the social network.
We have even put web cams in them so if you do have to see that person or look at something then you can. This saves people time and money because of the less travel. We also have to. With the production of new medical supplies we are saving people lives and making them live longer. In chapter 2 it tells and shows a chart of how high are population has gotten over the years since the stone age to present day times.
College students can waste almost all of their money on food if not spent wisely. For instance, taking a trip to the store and buying groceries will get students much more for their money than spending it on fast food all the time. Buying bread and deli meat is a good money saving decision because those sandwiches will last them longer than a fast food meal for a night. Students who are smart with their money and who make the right decisions on what and where to eat will save themselves large amounts of money. Also, buying healthier snacks may not taste as sweet as donuts or cakes but they do cost less.
There was only a simple law, and that was to not read books as well as think, making “the mind drink less and less.” This doesn’t seem much of a sacrifice because society was filled with far more excitement than literature could offer. Meanwhile, new technology helped people do everyday chores and made life simpler, leaving more time for fun. Like Beatty said, “Life is immediate, the job counts, and pleasure lies all about after work.” Entertainment ruled their society. The parlor walls seem like a god compared to our TVs. The seashell radios are convenience at its best.
WW1 ends – The ending of WW1 meant that the European countries were able to meet their own demands and therefore did not need any more supplies from America. Farmers suffered from overproduction and could not afford to keep their homes or pay mortgages, some farmers even decided to become sharecroppers. In 1924, 600,000 farmers went bankrupt. Also, there was stiff competition from Canadian, Australian and Argentinean farmers who were selling vast amounts of grain to the world market. Over-production – Fewer products such as cars, consumer good etc were not being sold as factories were making more goods than Americans needed or could afford to buy.
They don’t need the pay because they are there on scholarship or other types of pay that is keeping them in the school. At the smaller school they also find money and financial aid packages for them to be able to afford their school. The schools that have more success get rewarded for it. Which helps every school in there conference. “For example, Indiana, which didn't make it to a bowl last season, collected $1.5 million from Big Ten Conference revenue sharing.” (By Steve Wieberg, USA TODAY “Bowl Games Can Prove To Be Costly”) So it wouldn’t be fair to pay athletes because every school doesn’t make
America began on small businesses and America has to continue to have small businesses to have a good economy. Wal-Mart endangers businesses all over the country because small businesses cannot compete with the superpower on account of Wal-Mart getting goods from places like China. Most people live within thirty minutes of a Wal-Mart and with their lower prices people will continue to shop there without realizing what they are doing to their own economy. Most people don’t realize that saving a few dollars by shopping at Wal-Mart is crippling all the local businesses around their area. Wal-Mart does not care about the American economy because they are thriving the way the economy is now, so American citizens have to stand up for their communities.
Remember you have to eat and unless you’re on a meal plan (which is still basically paying) you will have to go out and buy your own things to eat there is no mommy or daddy there anymore to help make sure your mouth is fed so you’ll have to try to save as much as you can to provide for yourself. Enough with all the food talk what about your books the most important thing in college is for you to expand your knowledge and without books it will be hard for you to gain that knowledge. I researched a few college textbooks and the prices look like a monthly car payment. The cheapest book I’ve seen was about $150 now imagine you have 5 classes you do the math that’s $750 dollars. Now imagine all your professors want you to have the textbooks immediately but you have no way to pay for the books because you spent your money on items you didn’t need or eating out when you didn’t need to.
My husband, is the only one that works. I appreciate him for being the breadwinner, but his job does not pay enough for all of us. This causes stress for all members of the family because the resources are not enough and our needs surpass necessities that are essential. Also, my financial aid is sufficient just for a couple of my school necessities, but not enough to cover for all the other things that my husband’s salary does not cover. I look forward, to the end of the line, when I finish college and graduate, so I can work, and help, and when my kids grow and become more self-sufficient.
Because “The Negro was born in depression”, they had always been poor no matter how blooming the economy was. Though things were worse for Terry’s family, Burke and Benton’s situation were better. They got more free food in the Great Depression, but white men would not allow themself to do like them. Clifford Burke said, “The American white man has been superior so long, he can’t figure out why he should come down”. This meant that America had been a wealthy country that made the people could not take the pressure from the Great Depression.
