Running Head: CANCER Approach to Cancer Care Grand Canyon University NRS 410-V November 11, 2012 Diagnosis and Staging: The biggest goal in the prevention of cancer is early detection because it is important to detect cancer in the body before it affects our entire body. Immediately after the detection of cancer, finding the most accurate diagnosis and staging the cancer are important in creating a plan of attack. Through testing and a large team of medical experts, a treatment plan is developed. It is also important that the medical team share as much information as possible with the patient and family so that they may take an active role in their own treatment. There is no single way to diagnose cancer in an individual. It requires a complete evaluation, and health physical, along with diagnostic testing or blood tests to accurately diagnose a patient with cancer. (American Cancer Society, 2012). Staging: Staging cancer means finding its location in the body and how much cancer is present. Doctors often need to stage the cancer to help them make a more accurate prognosis. Finding out the stage of cancer makes it easier to describe it to other health care professionals and it is one of the most important steps in the process of treating it.…show more content…
