Annotated Bibliography Thompson, Mark. "A Soldier's Tragedy." Time 177.9 (2011): 46-51. Canadian Reference Centre. Web. Dec. 2011. Mark Thompson graduated from Boston University in 1975 and in 1985, he won the Pulitzer Prize for public service in journalism. During the year 1994, he joined the Time magazine and since then he has been writing about Army's use of prescription drugs on soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq. In this periodical from the Time magazine written by Mark Thompson, he writes about the case of a U.S National Guard member, Matt Magdaz, who murdered his own family and then committed suicide. While this article does contain extensive details about the crime committed in 2007, Mark Thompson mentions the psychological effects of war on soldiers. He also writes about the "failure of the U.S military's safety procedures" that are responsible for the soldiers who suffer psychological effects due to their time spent in combat. It is also part of the National Institutes of Health which is a component of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. This site addresses many aspects of PTSD; signs, symptoms, clinical trials, statistics, suicide prevention etc. This site is used to inform the public in general what Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder is as well as how to cope with PTSD or people with PTSD. This site differs from my periodicals, journals, articles etc. as it gives an unbiased view as to what PTSD, it gives me an outside perspective as well as unbiased information such as statistics. This information can be useful to my research as it explains the symptoms of PTSD, statistics of adult and/or children/adolescents who suffer from PTSD in the United States. As well, it explains what PTSD and treatments for it as well. This could be used in the introduction paragraph, explaining what PTSD is and how it is
