Analysis of Squealer from Animal Farm Squealer represents the chief minister of propaganda, who uses trickery, and deception to persuade the masses. Squealer's charismatic intelligence and unwavering loyalty to "comrade" Napoleon makes him the ideal propagandist for any tyranny. Throughout the book, Squealer acts as a spokesman for Napoleon, justifying his actions and policies. He succeeds because the animals fail to notice how he slowly twists the truth. Squealer has all the characteristics of a successful orator; he is charismatic, intelligent, emotional, persuasive, and even hypnotic.
He teaches them a revolutionary song called "Beasts of England." Old Major dies soon after, but two pigs namedSnowball and Napoleon adapt his ideas into the philosophy of Animalism. Three months later, the animals defeat Jones in an unplanned uprising. The farm is renamed "Animal Farm." The ingenuity of the pigs, the immense strength of a horse named Boxer, and the absence of parasitical humans makes Animal Farm prosperous.
This results in dictatorships, with leaders like Joseph Stalin and Adolf Hitler. They (and others) get ideas in their heads how things should be, and their self-motivation and their own ideas are where they draw their inspiration from when they make decisions. In the novella Animal Farm, Napoleon starts out small, being on the opposing side of all arguments, staying behind and fulfilling his own desires, for example when he drinks the milk that was for all the animals. He takes advantage of all the animals. He gets bigger ideas about how things should be, and eventually goes against all the principles that the animals had all agreed upon at the beginning of the rebellion.
This is what causes the animals to rebel. “At last they could stand it no longer”. Now I am going to talk about a power struggle which took place between two of the main characters, snowball and Napoleon two very intelligent pigs. Ever since the taking of the farm there has been ongoing argument between these two as to what changes should be made around the farm. One argument that stands out the most in the novel and eventually decides who will win the power struggle is the debate over the windmill.
Animal Farm The character of Old Major in the story Animal Farm denies truths about the nature of evil when he says all men are the enemy and claims that mans’ removal will abolish the root cause of suffering. For example, Old Major teaches the animals that “[m]an is the only real enemy we have. Remove man from the scene, and the root cause of hunger and overwork is abolished forever” (pg. 7). However, Old Major only ends up asserting that man is entirely evil because some men commit evil acts.
A pig named snowball tries to change napoleons way to make all the animals life’s better, he tries to follow Old Majors commands. But Snowball is then chased out and banished by Napoleon. He tells the animals he was banished for their benefit but really Napoleon has just taken complete control and was abusing his power. Boxer, one of the horses, was injured by a cart of rocks falling on him. He could no longer work, napoleon tells the animals he is going to send him to hospital to get better but he is not.
Squealer Manipulative Ways Animal Farm, written by George Orwell is an allegory reflecting the horrifying effects of a totalitarian government. One of Orwell’s characters, Squealer (based on Vyacheslav Molotov) is a clever and very persuasive pig. His job: to promote Napoleons personal image and later on, become his intermediary. He cunningly justifies “Comrade Napoleons” actions when the other animals begin to question his authority. He exploits the animals on Animal Farm by using erroneous information and abusing their emotions as techniques to sway them.
The barn is a symbol because this was the place the pigs painted the seven commandments and then added their revisions, which represents the collective memory of a modern nation. The pigs did this to create Animalism and to ensure that the pigs would continue to rule over all of the animals. The working-class animals would puzzle over the changes but accept them. If the working-class believes history of lies from their oppressors, the will be less likely to question oppressive practices. The windmill is a symbol of the pigs’ manipulation of the other animals for their own gain.
Never does he show an interest in Animal Farm itself, but only the strength of his power over it. Obviously a metaphor for Stalin, Comrade Napoleon represents the human frailties (deficiencies) of any revolution. Orwell believed that although socialism is good as an ideal, it can never be successfully adopted due to uncontrollable sins of human nature. The name ‘Napoleon’ brings to mind the French dictator, and Orwell intended this, maybe to emphasises his true opinion on the true nature of Russian communism as not a dictatorship for working classes, but a simple dictatorship run by a self-interested leader. After the death of Old major, Napoleon and Snowball both become the leaders as they take charge of Animal Farm.
English IV – P August 25, 2010 Character Analysis: Animal Farm In George Orwell’s novella Animal Farm, the author’s central characters shape the plot and represent human nature in society in the simplistic version in a farm on the countryside of England. One of the leaders in the farm, Snowball, depicts an idealistic, enthusiastic ruler who tries to create an equal, peaceful society controlled by animals. After the members of the English farm society successfully overthrow the treacherous human farmer, two pigs stand out as the leaders of the group. Snowball and Napoleon look over the well being of the animals and the sustainability of the ranch, but the pigs soon disagree with each other on most topics concerning the farm. The author describes Snowball as “a more vivacious pig” that is “quicker in speech and more inventive” than Napoleon, meaning that Snowball has great speaking skills that help him win the attention and loyalty to his fellow animals and exhibits innovative ideas that may help the farm both economically and socially (Orwell 12).
