Analysis of the Movie Titanic Social inequality is everywhere in the world and there are some people who are born into wealth and there are others who are born into poverty. The movie Titanic is a great example of the inequality between the first-class passengers and the third-class passengers. The fate of the passengers on the Titanic dramatically illustrates how social inequality affects the way people live and sometimes whether they live at all. (Macionis, 2009, Pg.2) The analysis I have conducted shows how many of the people aboard the Titanic died because they were not as privileged as the first-class passengers. The movie, Titanic (1997) is based on a true story about an Olympic-class ship, which carried 2,300 men, women, and children, on its Maiden voyage from England to New York on April 15th, 1912. The main characters of this movie are Jack Dawson and Rose DeWitt Bukater, who are two passengers of different social classes who find love while on the Titanic. There were two parties on the Titanic. The poorer third-class passengers we under the deck and the first-class passengers were located on the deck. This movie clearly conveys the inequality between the first and third class passengers. The Caste System demonstrates how people of the third-class were born into poverty and had little or no social mobility. Rose’s mother puts pressure on her to marry a rich man, Karl, who is in the steel industry; to maintain their family. Karl decides to give Rose a big diamond to keep her interested. Rose attempts suicide, but then is saved by Jack Dawson. Rose is later invited to a party for the first-class passengers. The movie gives great description and illustrates the first-class passengers as being imprudent and without any care of the world. Even though Jack and Rose of are different social classes, they fall in love. In the mean time, the Titanic collides
