Written Assignment 2 After reading the several books and articles about slavery we see that there wasn’t a big difference between male and female slavery back in the days. 1st looking at the book: “Incidents in the life of a slave girl” we read a story about a black girl that was born into slavery. Her own parents were slaves, but the first years of her life with them was filled with happiness. When she was 6 years her mom died and she wasn’t aware of her status as a slave because her mother’s mistress actually treated her well and taught her how to read. After his death, her slave miserable life started. She was controlled by crucial masters. Dr. Flint her master, enemy and the one who can control her, had legal right to do anything he wants to her, since she is his slave. Dr. Flint tried to seduce her all the time by threatening her; he kept trying to have sexual relationships with her. The poor little girl kept refusing and running away from him so he doesn’t get near her sexually. But being the crucial person that he is, he refused to stop but actually aimed to break her rebellious spirit, without recognizing that she is a human being with feelings and desires. On the other hand, Dr. Flints wife was a church woman, but was as insensitive and brutal to her slaves…show more content…
This reading talks about how Solomon was one of the few black man who were born free in New York. At the age of 12, he was kidnapped and sold into slavery. Solomon was threatened if he would ever tell anyone his true story they will kill him. He was moved around to different states through ships, he tried sending a message through to his family but they were not able to find him. Solomon faced a big contrast with his previous life; he suffered slave diet hunger, lived in a cabin with a dirty floor, had poor clothes as well as restrictions to his freedom and was beaten and physically punished. Eventually he regained his freedom
