Assignment: Eastern Philosopher Letter PHI105: John Meeks May 17, 2009 Glory Bishop A Persuasive Letter to Buddha’s Disciples Dear Disciple: The main purpose of Buddha is to help all people who wish to become free of suffering. Buddha represents happiness of others. Following the Noble Eightfold Path helps us to realize in order to become happy on your own you must first make others happy first. The Eightfold Path is known to the followers as the Middle Way Path because it helps others realize that happiness is not long lasting. When this path is followed one knows that they will become free from their situation at that particular time.
According to Confucius, excellence comes partly from the cultivation of one’s virtues and intellect; so an education is mandatory. This education would involve developing skills in poetry, music, artistic appreciation, manners and religious ritual. Education was important because it transmitted the lessons of the past into the present. Confucius thought that education could show the way to wise and happy living. Also human beings should be full of respect and care.
One of their main objectives is also to be authentic and be devoted to their belief as to follow the traditions to the book and do not do anything that was unlawful by their leader. The names of the goals that the religions are trying to reach are known as Dharma. The different names given to Dharma are: Hinduism-Moksha, Buddhism-teachings of the Buddha, Jainism-Dharma are natural, Sikhism-path of righteousness. The people understand the goals and examine them as an essential way of being. In order to achieve their religion goals, and try to do their greatest by following their teachings of the religion and practicing every day.
Siddhartha Gautama created the Eight Fold Path. The Eight Fold Path of Buddhism is the way to end suffering, to help achieve the truth of all things and gold or freeing people from attachments. Right View: To see things through To understand the Law of Karma and karmic conditioning not necessarily an intellectual capacity begins with suffering ends with complete understanding of the true nature of all things 2. Right Intentions: The kind of mental energy that controls our actions. Commitment to ethical and mental self-improvement to do the right thing the first time around Right Speech the first principal of ethical conduct in the eightfold path.
In today’s Asian societies they still strongly believe in the cycle of birth and rebirth, which is represented by the wheel of law located on the Great Stupa. The wheel of law is used to defeat evil actions, thoughts, desires, and ignorance. To put the wheel in motion the Asian societies must produce good action and completely follow the Lord Buddha s teaching. They also believe the Earth is covered by
Daoism believes that the Dao flows through everyone and is the cause of the universe. It believes that the goal of everyone’s life should be to become one with the Dao. In summary Daoism believes that the purpose of life is to become one with the Dao. Hinduism’s religious beliefs helpfully maintain social control. Due to the fact that the goal of every Hindu is to have a good dharma and reach Moksha there will most likely be very few if any rebellions.
Hawkins on the other hand presented a different yet equally as informative model. His concentric circles model was an excellent way of explaining the human personality. Additionally, the checklist seemed to be a handy tool for ensuring therapeutic progress. Hawkins seemed to place a greater emphasis on how to help a client achieve spiritual and psychological maturity. He explained that all parts of the human function are addressed in the healing journey.
These ascertain that craving causes suffering, which is inherent in all composite phenomenon, and the cessation of suffering is achieved by attaining nirvana. One must follow the Holy Eightfold Path to reach this ultimate, and universal, goal of enlightenment (Harvey, pg. 47). Unlike other later Buddhist developments, Theravada practices emphasized individual enlightenment, such that nirvana is realized from within, and without the aid of outside forces. Ultimately, the ideal is to become an Arhat, one who has achieved nirvana, and successfully liberated oneself from the cycle of birth, death and suffering, known as samsara (Harvey, pg.
Alexie’s story symbolizes hope for his people through his knowledge of power. One of my claims are that clarity and insight is instrumental to obtaining knowledge. Clarity means seeing things clearly through understanding. Insight gives you an intuitive understanding of the nature of something. With one you will acquire the other.
First, My personal ethical lens states "Results Lens and Reputation Lens " As "I listen to my Intuition". My core Values is that I follow my heart, I'm very loyal and trustworthy. In other words I make decisions by what's really important to me. It states I moderately values sensibility. I'm tempered by rationality which means I use my own judgment and my mind to determine whether I should do or shouldn't do something.
