Terry’s relationships with the people in his life such as his brother Charley, Edie and Father Barry, help him to realise that Johnny Friendly’s practices are unjust and that Terry’s conscience was right all along. The love he receives from Edie encourages Terry to stand up and challenge. However, it is not just love that transforms Terry into a leader. Terry’s motivation to change his mind and eventually speak the truth is the result of a shift in his conscience which was sparked by the confidence he gained from Edie’s love and support, the influence of Father Barry and the love he had for his brother Charley. Edie’s love and kindness towards Terry encouraged him to see life differently without death and violence.
The actions of both Baba and Amir are destructive but ultimately, the reader sees the good in Amir whereas Baba fails to atone. Thus Baba’s deeds are shown by Hosseini to be more detrimental to those around him than that of his illegitimate son. Kite runner highlights how Baba’s choices are not only damaging towards the people around him, but to Afghanistan as a whole. Baba presents himself as a “black and white” man as he lives the moral code that “there is only one sin….theft”. At the start, Baba is viewed by the community as a patriarch, however as the novel unfolds, the reader sees the many flaws in his character and the hypocrisy of his philosophy through his interactions with others.
Why lets dress him up and promote him and ourselves in the process (see how good I am, see how I help the homes) but he soon fell from grace when society was forced to take a closer look at the problems of homelessness. Politics is simply war without bloodshed – and in this battle… They provide a reinterpretation or redefinition of what homelessness means. Realization that everything in society is intertwined.
He comes to life in the story, and passages involving him evoke a sense of pity in the reader, since they are so incredibly strong. Just as readers finds themselves getting into the character of Jerry Renault, Cormier transitions to the point of view belonging to Archie, “assigner” and ringleader of the “Vigils”, a gang at Trinity. Archie seems scary, a character who you probably would not want to be approached by for an assignment. To those who consider themselves a part of his exclusive gang, he is an excellent reader, a guy who your association with might earn you some perks. Even so, Obie manages to view him with a level of contempt, sine he is so incredibly different from everyone else.

Michel Dean Mahler Chris Ellen Lamb English 111-08 Better Than Average Rough Draft 1/20/2012 Better Than Average “I Just Wanna Be Average” by Mike Rose is the story of every man. It is the story that teaches us all an important lesson…low expectations often produce poor results. The story inspires each of us to strive to see not who you are, but who you have the potential to become in spite of (rather than because of) our circumstances. But in order for this to happen, you must be willing to reach beyond your environment. The story addresses a variety of social and economic issues.
Year of wonders depicts a society where power and strength are valued more than compassion & love. Discuss The novel Year of wonders demonstrates a society where characters demonstrate their value of power and strength compared to compassion and love. Which is evident through Josiah Bont , as he portrays himself to be a cruel and unjust man who adamantly displays dominion and cruelty to his wife and his daughter, Colonel Bradford and His family also value power and strength due to their status in society but as well as their own personal fears. However, Anna Frith, Elinor Mompellion and Anys Gowdie are the exception as they value compassion and love over power and strength and is demonstrated through their actions as acting as the aids, midwifes and apothecaries. Rector Michael Mompellion is the contrast to these characters as he is someone who displays someone who has changed from a person who valued compassion and love to someone who loses all faith and turns to value power and strength.
After reading Antigone, there were two protagonist who were the noble heroes of the play brought down by their own fatal flaws. Creon and Antigone were both noble heroes who tried to do what is right for the people of the town and they believed that it was their duty to help the community. Creon is a protagonist because he is a rational guy who like to take care of what is right. Creon distances himself from the awful desires of Oedipus and who he was. As a protagonist he tells Antigone that he strongly believes in political and social structure.
A hero can be a role model for people and be loved by everyone. A hero's abilities must be employed for a good cause, usually the protection of the weak. Ray Bradbury’s novel entitled Fahrenheit 451 (1953) challenges the reader to rethink what it means to be a hero: even though Montag promotes and continues his thoughts and freewill and to make people to remember the past. Sometimes Montag behaves irrationally and even commits murder to achieve his goal. Unconventional hero through the character Guy Montag with following events Montage’s act very unorthodox.
The dialogue also helps foreshadow the story. This is because Millar has them speak as if they’re telling fate. How John speaks like a hard worker, one who regrets his bad choices in life and he speaks as if he would do any thing for a second chance to prove his loyalty to all around him; foreshadows how he refuses to sign a contract that will betray his friends. In the crucible three characters are introduced and they hold their ways of doing things through the story. This shows great characterization in the play.
