The two most destructive threats they pose are to the existence of the native Red Squirrel and the health of woodlands that define the nation (Huxley 2003). Grey squirrels are outcompeting the red squirrel for food and shelter, making it very difficult for the red squirrel to continue to flourish and reproduce in their native ecosystem (Wauters et al. 2001). As a result, their population is decreasing due to lack of nourishment and sustainable shelter. Grey squirrels are also common carriers of the pox virus, which is nonhazardous to them, but deadly to the red squirrel (Williams et al.

Some of the main threats to the survival of this species are: Forest fires Inbreeding Development Lack of political commitment Illegal poaching is another major cause for concern. Amur leopards are targeted for their striking, spotted coat, which can sell for up to $1,000 in parts of southeastern Russia. With less than 40 individuals remaining in the wild, the death of one leopard can have severe consequences for the species as a whole.
Tourism has caused habitat loss for those endemic animals of the environment, specifically the pygmy possum. The pygmy possum is endemic to this environment, coz of its extreme weather for breeding and hibernation. The construction of homes and resorts at Mount Kosciuszko has resulted in the loss of habitat for the pygmy possums. The loss of habitat has resulted in man-made homes for these animals. The location of this home for the pygmy possum was made difficult for breeding of these animals.
The black bear can climb trees while he is retreating, by contrast, the brown bear has to stand his ground because his claws are too small and improperly shaped, so they must respond to danger by warding off any would be attackers. Bears have been dehumanized. An open dumpster in Yellowstone was closed because, both the black and brown came to associate humans with food and lost their natural fear of them. Many native American tribes both respected and feared the brown bear, even thinking it was a god. One tale tells of how the black bear was a great spirit, while the brown bear was created by the evil spirit.
Overpopulation of deer results in lack of food for the deer. The starving animals migrate toward domestic garden crops. Deer are not afraid to roam into suburban neighborhoods if there is evidence of food. It not only ruins homeowner’s crops, but it also places danger on families and their children playing outside. Taylor and Francis state: “Holsworth (1973) reported the results of a controlled hunt on the Griffith Island where the deer population was reduced from about 300 to 100 during eight hunting trips between October 1962 and April 1968 (Taylor and Francis 1).” Hunting provides incomparably healthier meat than the average processed meat.
. The increased human activity at the US/Mexico border which includes vehicle patrols, military and police actions, illegal immigration, and artificial lighting are destroying the fragile ecosystem that the Jaguarundi need in order to survive and thrive. The “Border Wall” separating the two countries restricts its ability to move and communicating during mating season. Another danger the Jaguarundi encounters, especially in the south, are hunters who value Jaguarundi furs. There is no formidable force working for the preservation of the Jaguarundi, the fact that the exact population for this big cat is unknown makes it difficult for conservation groups to petition the respective governments for assistance.
Some say that the wolves are not biologically ready to be taken off the endagered species list and still need protection. Should wolves still be protected or should they be allowed to be hunted and killed. The grey wolf The grey wolf ranges form about 4 to 6 feet in lengthe and can weigh up to as much as 50 pounds. It is noticible by its distinct thick fur coat which is outlined with a plethoria of silver and mostly grey. They are born for the mountains being able to tred snow very easily.
The population dropped dramatically and now it is very difficult for myself and many other farmers to sell our crops. Other farmers left their crops but unfortunately, I didn’t have that choice.” The Chinese farmer describes how the Mongols affected their society. This hard working farmer had the population drop because of the Mongols and was finding it a challenge to sell his crops. He explained how many other
This zone is filled with more state parks and undesired farm land. The undesirability of this land for cultivation provides a better environment that prevents the wolves from needing to wander into farm territory for food. Farmers living in these zones have to refer to other options to deal with invading wolves. Many of them use speakers projecting howls to imitate other Grey Wolf packs. This usually makes the invading pack migrate to other areas.
The arctic fox has been losing a lot of it’s land to the red fox. The lynx is a medium-sized cat that has long ear tufts and short (bobbed) tail with a black tip. It has abnormally large paws that act as snow shoes in very deep snow and its thick fur and long legs make it appear larger than it really is. It is around 2 feet tall, around two and half to three feet long, they can weight 10-23 lbs. and they live 10-15 years.
