Cook October 11, 2013 America is known for its many great achievements. Among them are sending Neil Armstrong to the moon in 1969 and creating the economic engine that won World War II. But when you land a plane in the United States, you cannot see these accomplishments because they aren’t tangible. You cannot stand anywhere on American soil and say “this was the country that went to the moon.” G.K. Chesterton once said “Architecture is the alphabet of giants; it is the largest set of symbols ever made to meet the eyes of men. Some of the most popular skyscrapers of New York City are the Chrysler Building, American Radiator Building, and, of course, the Empire State Building. What makes these skyscrapers such popular sightseeing locations to Americans? New York is the largest and most well-known skyscraper city. This is mainly because of the history behind these buildings. Perhaps this is why skyscrapers are such a tourist attraction to Americans. The Chrysler Building was at one point the tallest skyscraper known to man, the proudest achievement of American architects and citizens of America. The American Radiator Building used to be an office tower for the American Radiator Company, but was reopened as a hotel in 2001. This is the reason it is such a popular destination for travelers. It also represents the economic changes of New York. The Empire State Building was completed in April of 1931, in the pinnacle of the great depression. .It represents the struggle to rebuild America and the hope and achievements that America accomplished, even in times of its worst economic
