The Gilded Age in the United States saw unprecedented wealth being amassed. It coincided with the Industrial Revolution that brought about such innovations and technology as the telephone, growth of machine tools, the broad use of iron in construction, and assembly lines that allowed industrialists to increase production and reduce costs. Great wealth lead to increased leisure time and the rise of grand resort hotels throughout the United States. Railroad developments were key to both the Gilded Age and Industrial Revolution. I will be focusing on just a few key areas that have been struck due to the recession for President Obama and the Great Depression for President Roosevelt and how each man either fixed the problem or is attempting to. Here is just a short list of issues: unemployment rate, financial institutions and the stock market. Just like President Roosevelt, President Obama hit the ground running with his uncanny ability to act upon the economic crisis that was yet again effecting the American people. Obama scored major points with the people since within his first hundred days in office he was able to get congress a much needed stimulus package for their approval that would take care of the financial crisis the American people were facing with major businesses and financial institutions declining at a very fast pace. However, Roosevelt was facing a much worse scenario with an unemployment rate of nearly 25% after the stock market crash of 1929.
With an illustrious list of former clientele, including John and Jaclyn Kennedy, the Plaza Hotel was designed to impress upon its occupants the utmost sense of class, luxury and decadence whose essence typifies the upper-echelon of New York City residences. Located between 58 and 59th street on the esteemed 5th avenue, with each room being more venerable than the next, it is no wonder that the Plaza was made a New York City Landmark in 1969. Around Midtown, 5th avenue is notorious for expensive shopping, luxurious residences and an extensive array of businesses and office buildings which house some of the most successful companies in the world. Surrounded by skyscrapers, the Plaza is neither overshadowed nor outclassed by its much larger neighbors as it encompasses old-fashioned architectural components derived from Greek and Roman styles, along with an aged look that only reiterates its significance in New York’s architectural history. According to The City Journal’s Spring 2006 edition, the Plaza’s architecture includes a “ tripartite form of a column, separating the three-story limestone base from the shaft with a bold stringcourse.
The earth’s atmosphere was limiting how far we could see into space, so astronomers decided to bypass the atmosphere. The idea of a space telescope has been around for many decades, but only recently became a reality. The first proposal of a space telescope can be traced back to nineteen twenty three. Hermann Oberth known as the inventor of modern rocketry technology proposed that a telescope could be sent into space using a rocket. In the nineteen seventies the vision for a space telescope would become a reality.
ABSTRACT “Welfare policy successfully weathered an economic hurricane in the mid 1970’s and an ideological blizzard in the 1980’s” (Le Grand, 1990, p350). A statement suggesting that the welfare state in Great Britain had survived a crisis period in history. In the early 20th century it was highlighted in regards to the amount of poverty that men were suffering. Reforms after WWII were implemented and with Keynesian Economics there was an effort to improve the living conditions of the British people as well as the economy. This policy found itself in trouble on a few occasions but during the 1970’s there was a worldwide crisis and Britain asked the IMF for a large loan.
Soviet and America left out with much less interest. They both were more focus on the “Space Race” try to send the first man on the Moon to assert their dominant and technological leader (4). The cost was so great that the companies and governments between those countries Britain and France decided to join forces. . A draft treaty was signed on November 28, 1962 (5).
Many enjoy it because it contains a beautiful view and dinner. Also the Eiffel Tower ride, which is 460 feet high, located in the heart of the Las Vegas strip. This attraction is opened daily from 9:30-12:30. The Eiffel Tower, tall and mesmerizing, is a huge tourist attraction and brings a lot of money in. A place I personally love and think is a great historical marking of Las Vegas would be the Bellagio’s water fountains.
